Re: Bin Laden is dead!
Bin Laden deserved what was coming to him, but all of the celebration is a bit over the top for me. The terrorists followers celebrated when the towers fell, and now we're celebrating Bin Laden's death...what makes our celebration any different or right? Terrorism can not be traced to a particular point, as it's always existed and will continue to do so, so what are we celebrating? The majority of those celebrating so wildly are college students who were children at the time of the tragedy...they don't even understand the magnitude of what happened.
I liken this to whenever a serial killer is executed. The FAMILIES of those who lost loved ones receive closure and feel justice is served, but they don't act jubilant...yet there's a crowd of people holding signs and screaming for blood who didn't know any of the parties involved. It's a very barbaric sense of mind.
I was thinking the same thing I was like this kid was in 2nd grade (exaggerating) probably when this happened.Comment

The comment on YouTube was gold, "President Obama died, and came back to tell the world he is dead"
Indeed.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Whatever celebrations take place are warranted IMO.

There will always be those who take it too far, and maybe that's what you are referring to...but int he grande scheme of things, Americans today can have a great sense of pride that we accomplished a great. Terrorism isn't just going to go away today, but it was dealt a massive blow to the gut. Bravo to President Obama and Bush.Comment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
What are you guys watching anyway? I don't see people having Kegers celebrating anything. I see people on TV at Ground Zero in remembrance for those lost that day, I see people outside the White House celebrating a victory for our country, I see service men and women all over the world singing the national anthem. I don't see people going over the top in their celebration. Those celebrating are right to do so.

It's definitely going on out there.Comment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
Like I said, I'm sure it is. That doesn't take away the fact that Americans today can celebrate. We aren't barbaric for doing so. What is barbaric are those on that kill innocents just because of the fact we are "infidels." That's barbaric. Not celebrating the death of the most wanted man in the world for good reason.Comment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
I respect your opinion. Here's mine. It took 18 years and 3 administrations to bring this murderer to justice. In the meantime he's been behind the death of relatives and brothers in arms. I'm going to toast them with some Jamison today. I'm going to pray for the innocents that are going to die at the hands of his followers. As a soldier/vet I'm going to enjoy the moment because God knows there hasn't been a lot to celebrate in the last 10 years. In other words. I'm pretty damned happy today.
Interesting read.
I think it brings a lot of closure to many families and friends affected by 9/11 across the United States.Comment

I think what's hard for people to comprehend (and what I've been dealing with emotionally) is just how invested those of us in the military or federal agencies have been over the past 10 years. Our lives were forever altered because of it. I've been away from my family for the culmination of years because of this man and, Jackdog, I know you've given even more than that. This, at least on some level, validates all that we and our brothers-in-arms have sacrificed over the past decade.
I posted on FB that we in the uniformed services and, to some extent, America as a whole needed this. We've been at war for nearly 10 years and haven't had a V-Day or Armistice Day to celebrate and end or milestone. This is our "sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square" moment. It isn't the end of the war, but it marks a tremendous victory and one that we've been so desperately hoping for. This will reinvigorate our resolve in this continued on-going campaign against terror, tyranny, and evil.
As for people celebrating his death....I don't really perceive it that way. People are celebrating a major victory; a defining moment in our history just as people celebrated the death of Adolf Hitler. Is it uncouth or barbaric? I hardly think so. He willingly entered into war against our country and death is always a consequence in war. I applaud them for recognizing this moment for its place in history and showing the solidarity to show that being an American and remembering the sacrifices made by those at the hands of the now deceased Osama bin Laden.

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
I mean, I'm glad he's dead, but I don't like what this means for the future of this country. I can only imagine how many radicals are going to try to blow this country up. I'm pretty petrified, actually. 9/11 sent me into a period of anxiety matched by pretty much nothing, and future attacks would do the same.Comment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
This is what my dad, who is a NYC FF and was down at Ground Zero said to me when I called him this morning. He said he is happy to get closure for the families and his colleagues who were killed.GT:jb12780
