Just like if someone had murdered a member of my family or a friend, I would celebrate them being brought to justice. There's no way you can ever get those people back who were lost, or have that day erased from history. It happened. And as wrong as it is to celebrate another human being killed, how can you not? This man brought so much horror and terror to the world, and he can no longer do that because he is no longer here. What had to be done was done.
I'm in the military and did two tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I thought the celebrating was in poor taste.....especially knowing how "they" feel and act on the other side. I always thought America was above that and that type of thinking.

How can anyone compare Americans celebrating to terrorists celebrating their attacks?

Americans are celebrating the fact that a mass murderer, the chief financier of a terrorist organization and the modern-day face of terrorism and the worst attack on US soil is no longer around on this planet.

Terrorists celebrate the slaughtering of innocent men and women, most of whom did nothing but live somewhere or believe in something that those terrorists did not like.

I just don't get it. We're not celebrating the fact that the US just bombed an entire city to kill Osama. They didn't slaughter anyone. They took control of a compound that was housing the face of evil.

                  Re: Bin Laden is dead!

There's a post on Buzzfeed that put together a Top 10 list of celebrations from last night.

There's also one from Rivals that focuses just on college campuses.

Penn State, Ohio State, Iowa State, and Illinois State appear on both lists.

This thread is basically just an open invitation for guys to get banned that normally wouldn't and I don't want to see that. Well, we already have, but still, the thread has run it's course IMO. Feelings and thoughts are out and known by most of us, let's leave it at that.

I tend to agree. I thought the celebrating was over the top but I do understand it.

I can see people not wanting to celebrate. Some might view it as inappropriate to ever celebrate a death of any kind.

                        That's a respectable opinion.

I don't see why it needs to be locked up. There can be mature, reasonable discussion on the topic.

Just leave the agenda at the door and everything will be fine.

I can agree with that opinion, however I cannot agree with comparing "our" celebration to "theirs."

I don't want to get too much into it and get a solid thread so far locked. I definitely understand the pain the victims feel and they have more than the right to feel joy.

I said NOTHING about terrorists celebrating slaughtering murdering innocent men and women. I have no idea where you got that from. But I have seen Iraqi citizens celebrate the killing of soldiers first hand and it rubbed me the wrong way....this isn't even close to the same anger, but it still rubs me in somewhat of a similar way. And these are not terrorist...I'm talking about a farmer or some guy who runs a meatstand whose family was killed mistakenly when someone called for fire on the wrong house.

It's not THAT big of a deal in the grand scheme of things....I just thought that the celebrating aspect of this story doesn't show us in a great light.

                                Here is my take...
While I didn't "celebrate"...I was happy to hear of this....that goes without saying.

But I compare this with say a senseless murder of someone...and that person(s) that committed the acts to be prosecuted and found guilty...the family of the victim(s) will naturally be sad but at the same time happy. I've seen families cheer on conviction....while others not. It's a reaction to some sort of progression on the situation.
                                It's natural....and I see both sides.
But...if you were able to see video of the senseless murder and cheered and of the conviction and cheered.....and you can't see the difference....well....there's just no talking to you IMO.
You won't or won't want to ....get it.
