Re: Bin Laden is dead!
Geoffrey Robertson is one of the smartest minds of the past 50 years...you may learn a lot by reading about him.
A martry needs to die in battle...a court trial, jail etc is humiliation. It's a cowards way. Not brave enough to die in battle. Humiliated daily by the western press and courts. Robertson is 100000% right, it's the absolute last thing Bin Laden would have wanted.
I wanted what I view as justice and IMO, thats what we got.Comment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
It's also idealistic and totally improbable.
Just because someone is smart doesn't always make them practical. This idea is not practical. At all. Holding a trial for someone who has passionate followers as Osama is asking for more lives to be lost senselessly.
Kill him and move on. Most of the world is happy that he's dead. The others either only oppose the killing but still recognize that an evil is gone or they already hated us anyway and killing Osama isn't going to create a new level of anger.
I do agree that a trial would be ideal and having him rot in prison would be great as well...it's just totally impractical.I will say though that everyoe said it was impractical to give Saddam Hussein a trial...yet it was done and he was shown to be a pathetic, weak, scared old man. Bin Laden deserved to be exposed like that also IMO.
Eithe way, glad he's finishedComment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
This morning, White House spokesman Jay Carney confirmed bin Laden was unarmed when US commandos raided his compound in Pakistan and shot him above his left eye, reportedly blowing away a section of his skull.
Mr Robertson has told ABC News Breakfast bin Laden should have been brought to trial and his death has made him look like a martyr.
The assault team was also working under the assumption that bin Laden had an IED either on or near him. I think that's a pretty good assumption to work under, considering he was the most wanted man on Earth. You couldn't take that chance.
"The last thing he wanted was to be put on trial, to be convicted and to end his life in a prison farm in upstate New York," he said.
There is like a .00000000000001% chance he avoids the death penalty if caught.
"What he wanted was exactly what he got - to be shot in mid-jihad and get a fast track to paradise and the Americans have given him that.
"It's an irony that it's a win-win situation for both Osama and Obama. The latter gets re-elected as president and the former gets his fast track to paradise."
Osama's capture will do Obama's 2012 campaign as much good as the Persian Gulf War did George H.W. Bush in 1992, but I'll leave it there.Last edited by Chip Douglass; 05-04-2011, 01:00 AM.I write things on the Internet.
