I do it all the time. Everytime i go to a sporting event i usually go by myself. Mainly because no one want to take off work to go. (keep in mind that my teams are all up north and i live in the south) That and that most of my friends have families now and cant come with me on trips on a drop of a hat.

I think I am going to Oktoberfest in Germany by myself this fall.

I went last year with my wife and had a blast and I have to go back... but she doesn't want to go back so she said "Have Fun".

Always wanted to go to Oktoberfest, and overseas in general. Working for Delta i fly for free going out of the United States so i better take advantage while im still fairly young.

When I was single (a while ago) I went on two vacations alone. Had a great time both times.

Once was right after a break up. We were planning on going to WDW and I ended up going anyway. At the Orlando airport I'm on the rental car line and two guys around my age from Thailand or those parts start asking me questions about where to stay, what to do. They were clueless travelers.
They took a room at my hotel and I ended up being like their WDW tour guide. Looking back now I'm wondering if they were a couple, but at the time I didn't think of it at all. They never made a move, but they did buy me dinner every night.
After WDW I traveled south to the coast, where my parents were vacationing. There I became friendly with a few European girls who were staying at that motel.

My other vacation alone was to Cancun. A guy friend of mine backed out at the last minute. I made a few friends at the hotel. Then about 2 days before I was leaving I met a lovely young lady from Argentina on the beach. We spent the rest of my vacation together, despite the language barrier.

A couple days holed up in a cabin in the woods or an ocean front cottage with my guitars would be awesome. Nothing like playing some guitar on the deck watching the waves roll in.

Anything more than three days and I would probably go a little nuts and get bored.

My initial reaction to this question was a resounding "Hell no" simply because I don't even like going to the mall alone lol. But after some thinking I could prbly do it. It would be nice to meet and hang with some different people and just get away from everyone in my everyday life. I could prbly handle it, and now I kinda want to go, but I can't afford it.

Personally, I'd never do it and never have. I just enjoy company be it friends, family or wife.

I see no problem if people would/want to go on vacation solo.

Now if it's to sit in my basement for a gaming marathon...I'd love being alone.

Depends where i suppose, but mainly no I'd like some company just to talk to on the trip there atleast. However Im trying to plan a trip to NO in a few years that I'll do by myself, I want to time it right I can catch an LSU/Saints/Hornets game while I'm there

Some of the most eye opening times have been when I went out alone and took in a place I've never been.
