too fragile........people are fragile like glass nowadays. You can say boo to a kid and he will cry and his parents would try to sue you for emotional scars. -

Yep, way too soft. Always have to watch what you say or, God forbid, you might hurt someone's feelings. Oh no!Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

Clearly the guy was joking. It seems the generation after latch key kids have been raised in a bubble and you can't even make a joke or say anything that might ruffle a few feathers. I mean c'mon do you honestly think he'd want to kill Halladay for real?

The guy's comments were harmless and the overreaction to them is ludicrous in my opinion. Do people seriously not recognize a joke when they hear one?Patriots

Absofreakinglutely.
I'm *trying* to raise my kids with as little sensitivity to the "PC revolution" as possible, but you can't completely ignore it or some whiny-*** douchebag will end up getting them in trouble in the future.
Every time one of their cheap, crappily made toys break I hear one of them utter a "Chinese junk" remark and it brings me an enormous smile. Four years old and they're already smarter than 90% of the consumers out there.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Yea, but the problem is that it is cool until it is their people being slighted. I think sexual orientation/race/ethnicity sensitivity is more justified especially amongst traditionally discriminated against groups, but at the same time, I could say what I truly think about the Marines and the Military Industrial Complex as a whole, and many of you may **** yourselves. So it goes both ways.Comment

Re: Has America gotten to politically correct/touchy?
Were it not a last minute thumbs down of a MEPS cardiac specialist I would have been a Marine, headed to Intelligence. Yeah, I know there's jokes headed me way, lol. I scored over a 100 on my ASVAB and every recruiter was at my door in weeks.
Anyway, I hear of stories of people who voluntarily enlist and when the get to boot camp they quit or get kicked out because they can't hack the verbal taunts. My step-dad loves me, but he was way tougher on me than an DI/drill sergeant. I'm gonna be tough on my girl, but in a loving way. God help us if we are at war and the draft has to be returned. Canada's/Mexico's population will double or triple and it will be like the Vietnam era where a bunch of men went to seminary and claimed "conscientious objector" status. They can't claim they are homosexual anymore, that ban has been is not an issue anymore.
I am not saying I agree with all of the American military policies, but political correctness may be the death knell of real courage.
As far as the Military Industrial Complex, Bigfoot, you may have a point and I agree there is some shady stuff going on the American people should know about, but I am just say we are turning even more to a country of politically correct wusses. The words "Under God" were deleted by NBC recently. Freaking sad.Comment

Re: Has America gotten to politically correct/touchy?
I try to be sensitive to people. I have made mistakes in using my dark humor in the past and offending people, but with these types of situations, it's like we are so afraid to kick back and be honest or have a good time and cut up. That's all this guy was doing, but you're going to get some sensationalized response from some group about what he said. The oddness is that most people hearing that won't be offended. It's the media and these knee-jerk groups that perpetuate this atmosphere in our society that we have to be ever so careful in what we say.
What we have in our present culture is this theme of everyone being offended and that makes everyone feel apologetic. We're not being real or genuine because we're so afraid of crossing the line.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Has America gotten to politically correct/touchy?
As for what acts238shaun was saying - anytime this topic is brought up, the implication is that American men have become wussies. Don't worry, as long as we are spending nearly as much as every other nation in the world in defense expenditures we will be fine.
Also, about the God thing, while I think that actual separation of church and state issues are more important, I wish it wasn't on the money or pledge, but again, I really don't care. I have often wondered what would happen if I edited my avatar, title, and sig, to profess my religious views, but it is not worth it. Again, PC is ridiculous until your God is being insulted.Comment
