    Hurricane Irene

We had briefly mentioned this in the weather thread but with this thing being upgraded to Hurricane force winds as well as having direct impact on the East Coast, figure to go ahead and have a separate thread.

Best case scenario would be to lose strength and make a sharp right curve that sends it out to sea but odds are that it won't.

Biggest question is which track does it takes? Does it hit Georgia or The Carolinas directly or does it simply ride up the Seaboard?

We should know alot more over the next 24-48 hours but for all you OSers down there, please be safe!

My aunt had her closing of her beach house (OBX) earlier this month. I'm sure she's not going to miss worrying about hurricanes like this.

We're suppose to get a lot of rain from it in Cuba starting tomorrow morning and lasting all week.

I was thinking about starting the same thread. Right now it's not looking good for the carolinas. I posted this in the weather section but I'll post here too.

Here is a good link for eastcoasters that want to keep an eye on Hurricane Irene.

I've heard this thing may barrel its way into NYC as a tropical depression with 60 MPH winds! That's pretty crazy right there. This could be a pretty damn strong hurricane so good luck to those in its path.

I always have an internal struggle when hurricanes like this happen. Obviously I get worried because of the destruction, but I'm fascinated by weather so part of me wants each hurricane to be crazier than the one before it.

              I'm weird like that.

To all those potentially affected, be safe.

Completely understand those thoughts. I'm like that with all severe weather.

I hate that this is going to make landfall on part of the US but I'm glad this storm is taking a big right turn and staying out of the Gulf, the last thing we need right now is a hurricane.

Once it reaches the Bahamas, it should be clear where it is going. If it stays to the right of the Bahamas, it might make a short lived landfall in NC and then continue up the coast or just miss everything. If it crosses the Bahamas and travels on the left side, FL, GA, and SC will be hit with something.

Between the 2pm and 5pm tracks, it shifted more eastward which means the eye would hit more at Myrtle Beach instead of Hilton Head or Charleston.

Glad I'm not moving to eastern NC until Monday. Those winds and rain would be a hell of a welcoming committee! lol... I assume we'll still get some left over rain, but hopefully the worst will be past.

                            39-73 mph = Tropical Storm.

All depends on the models tonight, they are getting information tonight on the ridge that could set up and steer Irene to the East. But of course, the bigger Irene gets, and the stronger she gets, the harder it will be for it too move.

I hope it gets steered out to sea, I don't want to experience my own Hugo.

If it does hit us I'm not looking forward to the power outages. Out in my area I'm sure we would be without power for several days.
