I also hate when people say "guy." Like, when I walk into a room and nod at someone and that person says "Whats up, guy." Huh? Guy? Are we about to square off or something? Just weird to me.

I feel like this word's slang meaning has been around way longer then it's recent popularity.

Slang is interesting to follow where it comes from and how it travels. Most definitely originate in the largest population centers, so NYC, LA, etc.

But then the Idiotnet takes something cool and beats it in to the ground and makes you resent it.

I've started to irritate myself with the word interesting. I have a habit of pronouncing it intra-sting. My wife does and I picked it up from her. I end up repeating the word with the correct annunciation afterwards.

Granted folks from Mississippi don't say a lot of things right and clear, but I've been killing myself with that one lately.

Glad I found this thread ... some phrases that bug the heck out of me:

                    - "Does what is says on the tin"
                    and
                    - "Turn-key"

Can't tell you how often I hear those.

Are those regional to Canada? What do they mean?

Re: Most annoying words, terms, phrases

No, I've heard Americans use them as well. "Does what it says on the tin" means it does exactly what is advertised, and "Turn-key" is usually put together with "turn-key solution", which is usually an IT or business thing. It means an easy one-step solution, like a product that is so easy to set up, it's like turning a key. That one I'm hearing less of, thank Zeus.
