Thats just like saying its going to be smooth sailing out loud then its everything but that lol.

Once you move it you're only halfway done. All the things you need for the house like blinds, curtains, , etc off the top and having to put all of that stuff up consumes you.

It's insane...plus we're guys, so the whole "decorations" type stuff goes a bit over my head. We've barely started putting stuff on the walls lol Plus it's almost Christmas season and she has a lot of little things she puts out for that holiday...

After a little while it does calm down a bit, but there's still always stuff to do.

Man I hurt muscles I didnt even know I had. I ended up wearing down within a week or so though, I could barely pull myself up on a a stool.

It does calm down after some time finally but my wife wasnt a big decorator at the time, so I was back and forth to home depot...bought blinds I had to put up and the windows have more metal around the edges so I was screwing holes all in the wall without knowing and I couldn't place the blinds in the sill so it I had to put the base higher above the metal... it sucked at first lol

I know how you feel, 23. I moved us by myself in the middle of August in Louisiana. It was a beyotch. I've already decided that if/when we move again, I'm hiring someone.

We moved a couple months ago. Basically packed our stuff, rented a Uhaul then paid for labor to move us. It was roughly $500 in total. Last time we paid for a full service move and it was almost $4k

Hey guys, would appreciate your thoughts on a situation. We are currently looking at buying a home soon and have pretty much settled on a floor plan. The home we're looking at has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths a study and a dining room. Costs about $238k. There's an option on that house to add a second floor, which would include a game room and media room (man cave). The add-on costs an additional $30k.

If we got the single story iteration, we would be able to live comfortably. If we got the second floor, we would be able to save (not as much as option A), but things would be a little tighter. We are both in line for raises, but I don't want to factor that in as its not real. We would really like the "full" home, but I don't want to be "house poor" either. I should be thankful for any home, but it sure would be nice to have a media room. What's your take on it?

If you're going to spend $238K, you might as well spend $268K and get that second floor with the man cave. How many square feet does that add to the home?

The raises you two get could end up making this an easy decision. If it were me, and I could still swing the payment with adding the second floor, it wouldn't be a hard decision.

It's your home and you shouldn't be afraid to take a big bite. ESPECIALLY if it's a long term home.

I tend to agree. If you can't afford an extra 30k to get what you want you are probably making a mistake anyway so I assume you would do the home work and determine if the extra ~100/mo is worth it.

I would not make the decision based on getting raises though.

The top floor would add additional 700 sq ft.

We are renting an apartment right now and moving into this home would take our savings from $2850/month down to about $2200/month. This is all based on our incomes at the moment. It's about $150 difference in monthly payments between the two options, which isn't substantial, but it does equate to a cell phone or utility bill. I guess I'm just a little apprehensive about buying a home and don't want to over-extend myself. On the other hand, I don't want to short-change myself and end up regretting it in the long run. Man, this is tough. Lol.

It's going to be your castle and you're going to want to spend time there quite a bit

Budget and see what you have left after you pay everything on both sides of the prices

As long as you guys don't live high maintenance lifestyles you can manage

So, you're able to SAVE $25,000 per year? Did I read that right? $25K per year goes in your savings account?

If so, GET THE MAN CAVE!

                              Owning >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Renting

Sounds like you could very comfortably afford this house with the addition. Man, you only live once... It is a big decision but don't over think it.

                                It's a no brainer.

You have to balance saving versus living. Be smart but don't over save, you are not guaranteed you will be here tomorrow.
