Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
The digging and replacing is what I'm trying to avoid..lol.
Basically this one sprinkler head gets no distance.Comment

Yeah, if you replaced the head, but it's still not projecting further, I'd say it's going to be a buildup issue in the line. Probably will have to dig down unfortunately. Could the line be pinched/caved?Twitter - WTF_OS

Tried removing the head and flushing the line? Could be a loose flake of calcium deposit blocking flow (at least that's one thing I would check around here, have to clear my kitchen faucet aerator like twice a year for this).Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
Need recommendations on a push mower. Max price is $300. My front yard could be cut in less than 10 minutes. The back yard is also small, but there is a pretty steep hill.
Been looking at both gas powered and cordless electric. Really considering the Black and Decker CM 1836 ($250 with integrated 36V battery) and the CM 1936 ($280 with removable 36V battery) My only concern is that at 72-77 lbs , they will be a pain trying to mow that hill. They are 18 & 19 inch movers, respectively. Could I get away with using a smaller 14 inch mower that uses a 24V battery?
Would love to spend much less than that but don't to be concerned about the maintenance that goes along with a gas mower. Thoughts?
I'll take some pics of the yard later.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 07-19-2015, 04:17 PM.Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
We picked up the above Troy Bilt from Lowe's when we moved in almost 3 months ago. It's been great so far. Easy to start and easy to use.
We also liked it because of the Honda engine. We had been using a self-propelled at our rental house, but I found it to be clunky and too heavy for inclines.

We've had a Craftsman push mower (Briggs and Stratton engine) from Sears since '08. Besides oil and spark plugs, only thing we have replaced on it is the blade (cheaper for me to replace than having to worry about getting it sharpened). We have had good luck with their lawn equipment as well...have had no problems with their electric grass trimmer, hedge trimmer, and blower.XBL & PSN: zasbury25Comment

I've had a craftsman B&S mower for about 10 years (at the time Craftsman mowers were built by Poulan Pro, AKA Husqvarna), a cheap one too I think it ran me $150, and beyond normal stuff I did rebuild the carb last year (was easy).Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
My smoke detectors went off three different times last night between 1 AM and 3 AM. Think we figured out that there was a spider in one of them that kept tripping it. But there's nothing like being woken up by the blaring alarm to really put you on pins and needles. The alarm that did it was in the basement but they're all connected, so it set off all of them which includes the one in our bedroom obviously. So. Damn. Loud.Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
Anyone have any experience annihilating crabgrass? My yard looks like crap, partially because I think they gave me a bad batch of sod that had been sitting out, but also because the damn crabgrass has taken over the yard. I've pretty much given up on at this point, but was wondering if anyone had any experience getting rid of it midseason. Or am I better off just waiting until it dies off later this year and then prevent it starting next spring and seed after that? What grass I have looks terrible because it's gotten dry out (no one else really waters around here) and when I was watering it, it only seemed to make the weeds take over more. If I can keep it short, maybe it would be beneficial to seed this fall, and then I'd have the new grass already in when I prevent next spring.Comment

Scotts is always helpful:

I'm going to have to do something about crabgrass next Spring. I'm hoping to see a good amount of improvement next year in the yard. I did a treatment of Weed & Feed when we first moved in and will do another in late Summer. We started with clover and crabgrass and I'm already seeing an improvement with the clover and a thicker yard overall.

On second thought I have a bigger problem with wire-grass. Does anybody have any good pointers for removing and keeping wire grass out aside from pulling it out by hand?

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
Any suggestions for nuisance ants?
I've got a pest control service which, for the most part, keeps them out of the house. But they're all over my yard, landscaping, trees and porches. I let my dog out in the backyard, and he had four of the little bastards on him when he came back in.
I put some Terro in the landscaping, but that seems to have largely failed.Comment

Can you identify the ant hills and spray with pest control?
