    Highschool Basketball Help

    I'm a varsity player.
    6'6 l80 pounds
    In a junior

And I'm soft as hell man.

First home game was last night, and I got about 5 mins out of 32 mins
In the bginning of the year, coach told me I was in the rotation and it depended on me as to how many mins I would get.

I guess ever since he told me that, I've been nonchalant in practice.
Just going through the motions. Sometimes he calls a play or tells me to do some thing id just forget lol.

The assistant coaches know I have great potential. They say was I notice how good I am, and how tall I am, ill be a beast.

There was a game on saturday, and I threw a behind the back pass from the high post with l4 seconds to go in the half. He yelled and took me out the game. When he put me back in the, I picked up a quick free throw violation.

I know what I'm doing wrong. In way smarter than that. Help me out.

Lift and Eat. Stop cocking about in practice and take it seriously.

I'm a high school coach, and if you did things like this at my practice, I wouldn't play you either. Consider yourself lucky that you got the 5 minutes of playing time.

Not trying to be a jerk, just tough love. If you want to become a better basketball player, you need to work at it.

I'm not a coach, but I'll go out on a limb and guess that most coaches probably don't care too much for behind the back passes and other stuff like that during a game. My advice is to pay attention and work hard during practice. When it comes to game time play sound, fundamental basketball and leave the hot dog stuff at the play ground.

You know what the best pass is? The easiest one. You don't have to throw a behind the back pass, just make it simple.

Treat practice like a game. You wanna play? You better practice well and give it your all. Don't get lazy.

Potential doesn't mean a thing if you don't put in time to improve your game and be a great teammate.

Watch the video Reaman posted, then ask yourself if you'll "go through the motions"?

I'm in the same position as you lol: 6'7" 187lb. Junior

Thing is I have a great work ethic (not trying to be cocky or anything). I'm on my highschool rowing team and it's the offseason and I'm working out 5 days a week (cardio/lifting).

And I just dropped 6 seconds off my PR erg (rowing machine) time of 6:52, while most people are struggling/failing to maintain what they got before. All you need is motivation, I SWEAR. For me I went to a rowing camp over the summer and the Wisconsin rowing coach said straight up "you gotta get faster". Now I'm doing 5 days a week and using my OFFSEASON while others are home gaming.

I'm on the top boat for my school as a junior

And EAT. I'm the same as you (I assume), tally and lanky as sh*t.

Every meal I drink a protein shake along with eating way more than I normally do. And in about a month if gone from 178 to 186 to 187ish.

This means if you eat an extra peanut butter sandwich with every meal, have things to munch on between meals. If you stuff yourself (this sounds bad lol) you will gain weight

              Good luck

Ps. Remember work ethic and food. Trust me you'll make it.

Pss. This wasn't meant to sound cocky for me, if it does sorry, I'm one of the most humble people you meet (and that isn't supposed to sound cocky either lol)

Oh yeah, and when you play basketball here's some advice:

I used to play basketball as you could probably tell by my height

CRASH THE BOARDS!!! if you give your team more plays every possession, you'll play more minutes. And coaches will view you as hardworking

Yeah if I was a coach and seen you slack off in practice, I wouldn't have played you at all. And behind the back pass, umm no, this isn't And1 tv show, nor are you Kobe or Lebron.

Better start taking stuff serious. Your problem is you THINK you are a beast but in reality you aren't. And you definitely need to bulk up, you a good 40 pounds too light for your height.

Don't waste your opportunity nor the coaches time if you not going to take it serious.

You already know what's wrong. Your nonchalantly in practice. If you really want those minutes you would put the effort in.

Yeah just keep practicing hard and you will get your minutes. And who knows, 5 years from now we might all get to see you in the NBA. Only get one shot, so make the most out of it.

I seen way too many kids self destruct before they graduated high school and now they hooping in the parks living off of their glory years in high school like they were Al Bundy.

You are not entitled to anything. Just because you're good doesn't mean you get to play, you have to get out there and prove your worth to the team. At 6'6 180 you could get a lot of colleges attention, but riding the bench isn't going to help, so get out there and prove yourself man, you can do it.

I hear you guys. I've definitely picked up my intensity in practice. That feeling sucks when everyone in practice goes. "Jon why didn't you play last night"

You should be around 210 at your height to really help your game. I'm 6'1" 185lbs and it helps for what I want to do, so take advantage of your god given talent, bulk up a bit, try to not be a cocky ******* in practice and you should be fine.
