I used to love the Mexican food in the Central Valley. Better than the Mexican food in LA, and that's no easy task. Mexican food here is one of the few redeeming qualities of this place.

Well, we don't know for sure, but it sure looks like my fiance is going to get into Oregon. The department has recommended admission, but the graduate school is still pending. It is a good sign. We might live in Eugene this time next year.

I've heard Eugene is really nice place to live though they're major bandwagoners when it comes to the Ducks so when they're in the top 5 in the polls well...be prepared to talk to loco fans. The good thing is, when they slip even a tiny bit it's a ghost town that way.

I get this from some folks that live there who've talked about it on other boards.

Well, I'd have to become a de facto fan of the Ducks, or any school she'd go to so I don't lose my mind, but the Hokies will always be #1 in my heart.

My problem with Eugene is that I don't know if there is a ton of opportunities for me there. I always compared it to Portland and Seattle. In terms of tech jobs Seattle beat the crap out of both, but Portland is still a much better place for me to be professionally than Eugene.

I went to Oregon for a semester, as a college student, it was great, as a professional? Well there's a reason I only spent a semester there. When I was there the college was pretty much all Eugene had.

I don't think rooting for you hometown team when it does good qualifies as being a bandwagoner. What you described is more of a fair-weather fan.

Considering your disdain for their barrage of uniforms in football, I find this amusing.

It pretty much is. Oh well, my fiance liked their program enough to apply. Here's hoping that Portland State comes through anyhow.

                          Ah yes, Portland State

They wore those from 2007-2009, but have since gone back to their more traditional logo

I think he'd enjoy the throwbacks they wore this season:

If she does end up at Portland State, GIGGAS, you have to get this shirt:

Yeah, it's definitely a college town. Not sure what opportunities you'd have there. Would you consider going to grad school at UO?

Eugene is very...interesting. Nice town, fantastic bars, great college vibe, but it's Portlandia x10.

I hear Portland has a very lucrative "putting birds on things" industry, so hope she gets into Portland State so you can take advantage of that.
