    OS or the Social Network

Sup fellas, haven't made a thread in forever. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys mostly use OS for your social networking choice or do you use FB, Twitter or any other sites for your socializing.

I personally think Twitter and/or FB are relationship killing, fake persona breeding and useless info posting sites that are nothing more than popularity contest to gain freinds or followers. I use FB to keep in touch with people I know personally and to network with folks who are in the music scene like myself but there is nothing like communicating with like minded folks like the ones here on OS.

One thing I cant firgure out is why most people choose a social networking site instead of looking for a group of people who share the same hobbies and interest. It makes for much more thought provoking discussions in my opinion. I cant stand joining a discussion on FB only to have it ruined by somebody who doesn't like to write in proper english and you cant even relate to to begin with.

Why is it that I'm sure every male in his 20s or 30s plays video games but I cant find a worthwhile discussion on FB to save my life. Its as if everyone wants to be this cool "swag king" since the women-folk are around and neglect to talk about anything that can be considered lame or nerdy.

I know I dont know any of you personally but I do like the fact that most of us here have the same interest and can talk about anything under the sun. From movies to serious breaking news. I can get the same thing on FB but once the discussion is over, everyone goes there seperate ways and it doesn't feel as if you're actually befriending ppl.

And dont let me get into the topic of relationships. If one more "out of the blue" ex-girlfriend or boyfriend pops up in my life, Imma do a 5 star frogsplash into a pit of fire. lol. I just get pissed cause no matter how hard you try, these ppl refuse to go away and can always find you no matter what. Especially right when every thing is going great in your relationship. I'm sure most, if not all of us are guilty of having an ex of some sort on our friend-list or a friends friend-list.

Just wondering what the rest of you guys feel about it. Do you use OS more for socializing or is your FB/Twitter feeds getting the majority of the attention. Or both. I'm curious to see if I'm alone with this feeling.

Re: OS or the Social Network

I'm mostly on OS to discuss sports and gaming and whatever topics come up in the neighborhood or other forums.

I only signed up for twitter after I made a comment in OT 2011 back in March about cutting my finger on my laundry basket and ryan36 said something like I should get a twitter for that stuff. About 95% of my follwees and followers are OSers and I mostly use it to chat with other OSers about stuff that can't be talked about here. I also follow some accounts related to Pittsburgh sports teams and video games. Outside of chatting with other OSers, I don't really tweet that much except for the occasioanl random comments about happenings in Pittsburgh sports or if something ridiculous or frustrating happens in a game I'm playing.

I only started on FB about a month ago when my sister made contact with a cousin who had been out of contact with the rest of the family for nearly 30 years. All of my FB friends are either family or people I knew from college or high school. Don't really do much on it except occasionally comment on other peoples status.

So basically, I use social networks to stay in touch with family and people I already know and stay informed about sports and gaming news rather than for making new friends.

I use OS a lot......it is more drama free. FB and other social websites bore and annoy the hell out of me. On those sites, too many people on there try to IMPRESS people.

Too many look at my hot girlfriend/boyfriend pics, too many look at my hot car pics, look at my cute kids pics. Way too many my boyfriend/girlfriend did something awesome statuses.

And way too many 4 square check ins. Also one thing I like about OS is that a lot of different video games are played and talked about. Where as other social media outlets, it is heavily dominated by sports games, fighting games and FPS talk only.

I use twitter to talk about stuff that would violate the TOS on OS.

I use Twitter and OS to talk about sports and Community and make terrible jokes.

I use FB to talk to my friends and make plans in town and make terrible jokes.

I use LinkedIn to act as a sort of resume + recommendation chest that I don't make terrible jokes on.

My twitter is used for both personal relationships as well as sports and OS talk. I really need to split it up because I'm sure the girls and old high school buddies are thrown off by the "Wait why was *Username* banned" tweets.

As far as Facebook goes...that's mostly personal. I have some OS'ers on there, but they mainly stay to themselves as well

            I don't use Twitter.

I use Facebook for social networking.

I use OS for documenting dynasties, talking sports with other members, and of course the OS Neighborhood, ect.

I use OS to talk about entertainment, sports, other random stuff.

I no longer use OS to talk about sports video games.

I use Twitter as a lawless, post-apocalyptic extension of OS where there is no TOS.

This...is why FB and Twitter bore me as well. There is a guy I'm close friends with who has a totally different persona on FB than when he's around me. On FB, he's this gods gift to women perv but we're total video game heads and dorks when we hang out. I'm just using his example for the many people I come across on FB/Twitter. To many people living awesome, envy-enducing lives when in reality, their life sucks just as bad as mine. Everyone wants to be and look like their life is the ish and it comes off as being phoney. And as far as discussions goes, out of the 150+ people on my friends list, only 1...thats right 1 person ever talks about current events and the latest happenings. Everyone else is to busy taking pics of what they're currently eating or making some sort of inspirational speech.

This I can understand. But this is also the reason why I like OS more. Having moderations weed out the crap makes this place much more enjoyable and easier on the eyes.

OS is for video games, sports, fantasy sports, technology, music, humor...pretty much everything

Facebook is for glancing into the lives of people I grew up/went to college with.

                      I do not use Twitter

I always say that "my friends are in my phone"...

If you're not in my phone, there's probably a good reason...

So, there's no effin' way I'm on FB or Twitter...

I'm "nostalgia-phobic", so the past (and people from it) can stay right there...IN THE PAST!

OS, however, rules for gaming discussion and general hilarity...

So, it's here or "nowhere" for me re: Interwebs...

Facebook-starting to not use as much. When I received the "Timeline" update I went through everything on it from 2007 and got to read everything I posted and people posted on my wall...Ended up deleting everything on it and haven't had a status update since December 1st. I have tried deactivating it twice but failed. It is sad how much the website is used by people my age (In college) and it's funny that if you don't have one people think your crazy. It is actually an integral part of peoples daily lives...I wish it wasn't but it's here to stay unfortunately.

Twitter-Just deleted my Kev5890 account with around 550 followers. Got old fast but I did create a new one and I just follow people/athletes/game companies. It is a great way to get information extremely fast.

OS-Just really use to read/discuss things I wouldn't normally talk about on Twitter and Facebook.
