Re: Idiot alert
It's funny how the majority of them always want money, instead of something they can use. I had something similar happen to me at Arbys, a few years ago. I offered to buy them something to eat, but they turned it down..
I'm a caring human being, but I won't just hand someone money and expect them to do the right thing... it just doesn't work like that.
I have given homeless people a McD's double cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich since they are only a buck.
I never give money though, cuz most the time that cash is going to alcohol, drugs, or smokes. I am not helping them with their habits. If they are hungry and want food, that is one thing, but to want just cash is always shady business.Comment

This story sounds fishy to me.
I'm sorry, but if I just got made to look like a fool, the last thing I'm doing its running to a message board to let everyone know I was made to be a fool.
Also, as been said numerous times, there's probably rocks in the box. But the OP has ignored this and hasn't opened it? Uh, if you're so worried about getting ripped off, you'd have opened the box by now...

I believe him, what he's going through happens a lot here in Phoenix. I'm even on the road with my windows down with these guys coming at me trying to sell me speakers. I even had friends who got scammed from these guys.
Trust me, these guys are good sales people, they got skills.Comment

2. I doubt OP sprinted to the forums to talk about this. He is pretty active and a solid poster, this has been a decent thread and being able to laugh at yourself is a good thing. The OP is clearly not you.
3. He is not that worried about getting ripped off, he has a similar attitude as I do about these things. It sucks but **** happens. (Ex, I would let the person keep the bike they stole from me, if they would just explain to me how they managed to do it. Locked up with thick U Locks to a street sign. This has baffled me for years)
Also, sorry OP, I have no idea what your username is. I just recognize the George Carlin pic everytime lolComment

Re: Idiot alert
I've been here for years and people always tell stories, even if it doesn't put them in a positive light or if people are going to find humor in it. It's part of what makes this site so good. You're making it sound like he got robbed, hoped on his Phone and posted 5 minutes after it happened. Even if he did, so what? I've posted things as soon as they happened.Comment

Yeah, those scams have been in Phoenix for a long time. I actually F with them all the time and mess with them.
The best ones are the really cute chicks that try to sell you cologne. I remember one time this really hot chick was selling me a no lable aqua di gio. She was giving me the story that these were samples from her work. I was like "ok great, I have the same bottle in my car, lets test it out." She pretty much booked it as soon as she saw a cop around.
I already learned not to give a hot chick that comes up to me any money....unless its at the strip clup.

Re: Idiot alert
Worst part is if it turns out to be stolen property, the police catch the guy, and he has shown this pattern of selling at that Target, you might be on security camera receiving stolen property. So you'd be out the $300 AND the speakers. Fortunately, the chances of that actually happening are very slim.
Anyway, first thing that would go through my head if that happened to me is "scam or stolen".Chicago Bears

Re: Idiot alert
It certainly isn't limited to just the Phoenix area, had this happen to me about 3 years ago at a gas station here in NY out on Long Island. Didn't buy it but after the guy left me he went and approached someone else, the thing was I worked in an industrial area where there were a ton of shipping/distribution warehouses for all sorts of different companies so the "I'm on my way back to the warehouse" line actually kinda fit. In my case he showed me a random catalog that showed the same surround system as the one he was selling retailing for some ridiculous price.Comment

Re: Idiot alert
I have found that the phrase "You do realize there's a pretty good chance I'm an off duty cop" results in hilarity EVERY time...
Panhandlers, scam artists, activists and protesters of every affiliation...
It's my "Ron Swanson" deadpan delivery / arched eyebrow that sells it...
Oh, and I know OP ain't joking...his relationship / custody mess thread months back was proof positive that he's got noooo compunction about lettin' it all hang out 'roud here...
All good on ya, bro!Comment
