        Re: CRAP CRAP CRAP

Dang sorry to hear about the incident, crazy that we go through life running, jumping, climbing and we take our ability to walk, and run for granted sometimes. Until something goes wrong, it could be the simplest of twists, or turns in the wrong way and bam everything changes.

I'm going through a knee problem myself but my situation is a bit more complicated. I've had Pain in my Left knee for about Five months now. Have been to 2 doctors and it doesn't show up on my X-ray, followed every direction of resting when I can and been to Physical therapy; and I still have trouble putting weight on the Medial (inside) part of my Left knee.

I'm almost positive I have an Osteochondral Lesion in the Medial Condyle; that a piece of Articular Cartilage tore and is either flapping or has torn off and is a loose body in my knee; it didn't show up on the X-rays I had 3 months ago but I'm sure an MRI will show some damage... Now the difficult part is my insurance expired Dec, 31st last year and I'm waiting for my New insurance paperwork to go through so I can finally get the MRI to show that I need surgery on it. It's been a struggle getting through life the past 5 months, and I'm not even sure if I'm doing any more damage on my knee just by walking around on it.

You've taken immediate action though, and it looks like you're prognosis for recovery sounds good. Just remember to stay disciplined, and dedicated in your rehab and when you're strong enough to walk again do a **** ton of Mobility work on your ankles, and lower body; mild stretching and strengthening every day to pre-hab. You should be able to walk, then jog, and eventually run again. Best wishes to you.

            CRAP CRAP CRAP

Was playing ball yesterday and someone came in the lane and ended up landing on my foot...I tweaked my knee a little but ended up being able to finish...

            He broke his ankle.

I ended up just going home after the game....God man, all it takes is one minor thing to go wrong and your screwed. Think I might take some days off..

Went to the doctor today. My knee was all swollen and he began to feel it. Within five minutes he told me it was bone chips. Crisis averted thought it was something messy at first. Just need to ice it and rest it alot. Kinda bummed about the no basketball for a while but I'll live with it.

I'd never heard of it either. He said his doctors had never seen anything like it. Had surgery on both knees at the same time a few days ago. Six weeks no bending. Three months no walking. Unbelievable.

Man, I can't imagine what it would be like to go through a torn ACL or anything like that. I just dislocated my patella on Sunday night and that's been a struggle for me so far.

I didn't even realize it at the time because all I did was stand up and feel something pop in my knee but didn't think anything of it. I even went to work the next two nights and just ignored the pain in the right side of my knee thinking it would go away with some sleep but once it started getting to the point where I would be pulling pallets and would have to suddenly pull up while walking because it felt like something was about to come out of my knee, I knew it was time to get it looked at.

Sure enough when I went to the doctor he started moving my knees around and the kneecap of the injured one started shifting around while the other one didn't. I was supposed to take the next 4 days off of work but I ended up going on Friday night. I probably should have just stayed home because having to walk around for 8 hours trying to avoid bending your knee is ****ing exhausting.

I just hope it heals as soon as possible. I'm already beyond tired of having to hobble around and not being able to go out and do things like go to the gym. It's funny because a few years ago I would probably think it would be pretty awesome to be able to sit on my ***, miss work and do nothing all day but now I find myself looking for anything I can do, without risking further injury of course.

                    Basketball is the debil.

I tore my quad, broke my leg, tore my mcl and pcl, dislocated my knee cap, chipped my knee cap, and displaced my meniscus all at one time (I think, it's been so long I might be forgetting something). I will never forgive the sport.

I can't really play anymore, took me two years of phys therapy to get somewhat right again. I just can't get over the mental aspect of constantly jumping up and down on my knee. It also tends to buckle and shift awkwardly sometimes giving me the "oh **** I did it again" panic attack.

                    Thank god for soccer.

Dude take at least 2-3 weeks of just keeping that leg straight, try to keep weight off of it as much as possible. If there's inflammation ice it 3 times a day for 15 minutes but use a towel in between the skin to protect it, when the swelling and inflammation goes down use a Heat compress, or Warm towel to apply some heat. (to stimulate the blood flow to that area and promote the tissue fibers to heal) If you need to go to work wear some kind of knee sleeve to keep everything compressed, and warm and let your bosses know you can't pick up anything heavy because of your knee. I had to come back to work 2 weeks after my knee injury, because I couldn't afford missing anymore time.

Once the pain starts to ease up and your strong enough to get on that Leg you're going to need to do a lot of rehab, and strengthening. I got a program from a Physical Therapist but they were rip offs and charged me 90 dollars a visit so I stopped going; but you can cheat and use this excellent website that is pretty much a (Patellar, Quad tendon injury rehab.. Dislocated patella as well because if you have a kneecap tracking disorder it was probably caused by weak/damaged patellar/quad tendon)

Resting and stretching is not enough to heal patellar tendonitis. Following this advice can actually make knee tendonitis worse. Here's what to do instead.

Start by gently stretching your Hip Flexors, Quads, ITB, TFL, and Calves, just get them used to to being extended. If you're really tight you might want to Foam roll you're lower body.. You can use a tennis ball if you don't have a Foam roller just look up proper Myofacial release techniques on Youtube so you're doing it right without applying pressure to the wrong areas.

Then you're going to need to do Strengthening exercises... start slow and only do what you can handle. Start by strengthening your glutes. With Glute bridges, laying down gluteal squeezes, and Bird Dogs. Why am I training my butt muscles? You may ask, a lot of times knee problems are caused by a muscular imbalance at the hips, i.e weak glutes. You'll notice a huge difference once you start activating, and strengthening your butt muscles.

Then you can start doing some more Leg targeted exercises. I did Good Mornings, Side Lying Hip Abductions, Side Lying clams, Quad sets, Seated Leg extensions Only with Body weight. All these are good exercises but remember you have to pay strict attention to form to benefit from these exercises, keep the spine as neutral as possible no rounding of the lower, or upper back, focus on going controlled and slow and contracting the muscle involved.

Once you're healthy enough I found this was the single best. Single leg exercise to help me build strength in my Weak knee. Split Squats.

But it has to be with Correct form! If you do these incorrectly it will just cause more knee pain.

You have to focus on driving with the front leg with the heel on the ground, your knee should not bend forward past your shins. You have to keep your shins as vertical as possible, while you slowly lower yourself towards ground level. You're not going forward, but moving like an elevator dropping slowly to the ground with good posture, neutral spine. Then slowly coming back up, with controlled proper posture, front heel on the ground, shins staying vertical.

If Split squats are too difficult look up Reverse Lunges, similar movement but again form needs to be the same, If done right they will strengthen your posterior chain, give you core stability, and teach you to drive through your heel taking pressure off your knee.

Good luck with the knee, and more importantly listen to your Doctors over my advice, just wanted to share what I've been doing.. and it's actually working as I've gone from Pain just standing on my Leg for 10 mins, to being able to do Body weight squats and walk around with minimal discomfort. I've still got a long way to go but you can recover, and strengthen your knee with patience, and a disciplined rehab approach.

I do, not entirely sure why. It's got to be a luck/mental thing.

I have had both knees operated on. However, I had a hip injury as a young person and the Dr.'s told me I would eventually need a hip replacement. Fast forward to the end of 2013 and my hip was bothering me a lot and some days it was difficult to walk. Finally in the middle of December I decided I should see a Dr. I went to the Dr. on December 26th. He said nothing but a hip replacement would really help me and wanted me to think about it. I told him I just wanted to go ahead after I saw my xrays. I had the total hip replacement surgery on January 7th and I am now walking with a cane but will no longer need it by next week. I've had really no pain other than the quad muscle just being really sore and all the muscles surrounding my hip being weak. Rehab has been great and they keep telling me I can't go as hard as I want because it is still healing. I have just figured out that I need to change my mindset from when I used to workout. I always wanted to push my muscles and my workout so I would get the best results, but if I go that hard now without being fully healed it just causes more swelling and delays the healing process. I don't think my surgery could have gone any better and I should be even stronger than I was pre-surgery by the end of February. Just in time for golf season, lol. It's only been 3 weeks and I can feel improvement everyday and I no longer have ANY hip pain. Modern medical techniques and procedures are freakin' amazing. Plus it helps that I'm not even 40 years old, so the recovery time for younger, more in-shape patients is really fast.
