I was going to go there but I trained under a couple bad*** women chefs. One time litterally .

But I think this is more a conversation not on so much chefs but the abilty to cook in general.

It is true that Chefs mostly are men but long ago it was believed that the lead Chefs position needed a man due to the vigors and need for leadership in the kitchen.

If not cooking was manly then I'd be the most manly person on the planet as I have zero cooking skills. When I say I can't cook I mean I probably couldn't make a grilled cheese sandwich which is funny cuz my dad is a baker.

In my experiences I think it's backwards. I think knowing how to cook, especially grilling, is more manly.

Do you really care where I sent this from?

Just so you know, my fiancee's immediate reaction was, "Hell no, it makes him MORE manly".

I'll give you this advice though; never ask other men what makes a man more "manly". I could give two ****s what other men around me think of what I do. You'll find there is a big difference between what women perceive as "manly" and what men THINK is "manly".

If you can keep yourself well groomed, in shape, know how to cook, etc, you'll be plenty of man for the sex that matters... women

Ummm... Hell **** no! I love to cook, I was just heading to the food and beverage thread right now. Just made some lunch. Duck breast salad, with some red snapper "confit" in the fat from the duck breast. Let someone say I'm less manly because I like to eat good tasting food, over Taco Hell, McDonalds and the rest.

I love eating great tasting food and I love that I can make most of it myself.

I've learned how to cook all the cajun dishes my mom knows.

It's already paid off with one chick.

Good food and chicks? Nothing more manlier then that.

Exactly the opposite. I'm jealous of those guys who can cook.

Personally, I'm not very good at it, past hamburgers and spaghetti I can't make much lol. Wish i could though.

Another reason to learn would be how cost effect it can be. Especially for you guys who go to school away from home or plan to in the future. The groceries you buy will go a lot further than spending that money on fast food. In the process you'll be healthier and your wallet will be fatter.

Plus what college kid couldn't use extra beer money.

                    Exactly.
5-10 dollars spent at fastfood joint < 5-10 dollars spent at grocery store
Most of time, you still might be hungry eating fastfood. With buying grocery with same amount, it can last you 2+ days.
If I were to get fast food for the next 4 days, It would basically cost up to 20-40+dollars plus eventually getting gas. If I get groceries in same span, it could cost up to 20-30. It might not seem like much, but you can get all the stuff all in 1 day and save the gas money and not eat the same thing over and over

Personally, I've always loved to cook. Used to picture myself doing it for a living when I was younger. I don't know that many recipes (although I swear I make the best French toast you'll ever have lol), but I know how to do pretty much everything so if you give me the ingredients and recipe I can make it happen.

Seriously, no way. That's one of the dumbest stereotypes I've ever heard. Absolutely nothing wrong with a guy knowing how to or liking to cook. If someone is saying liking to cook makes a guy less manly then I guess to them grilling is not a manly thing to do?
That and i know what i put in my food. I source everything. plus I'm a GREAT cook. There is no steak house that compares to my own.

Absolutely not, I know plenty of manly men who are cultured and enjoy cooking sophisticated dishes, while also enjoying fine art, and wine.

Also I know a lot of women that it find it 'sexy' if a man knows how to cook.

Not at all. My brother's second passion is cooking. He watches Emeril, copies the recipes, then cooks them to almost perfection for his wife and kids.
Nothing wrong with that at all.

I've never heard that stereotype before.

                                I agree, that's crazy.
