Winters are partially depressing because by 4-5pm its dark.

Regardless what you're doing in the evening, it just feels nice to do so while it's still bright out. Helps even more in the summer since that thing is usually outdoors.

You can't exercise outside for the longest time because of the early sunset; however, I like winter because I like wearing stocking caps and sweaters. I have to have something to make it bearable.

Yesterday was the highest temp we've had since November 9th. That's a long haul of cold and dark, but yesterday was that day that made it feel like it was turning. Springtime is magical!

          Draft Day.

As in Draft Day for fantasy sports, any sport. Kind of scary how much joy I get out of the draft and the preparation leading up to it.

            Running in a light mist/rain.
Running in a cool/brisk overcast morning

I'm not exactly what you would call a runner. I've done 2 5k's in my life, and my typical run (on the rare occasion that I do run) is typically just 2 separate single miles with a short break of walking in the middle. That being said, running is the one exercise that I actually do enjoy, and there is just something refreshing about the 2 above scenarios.

I'll also add driving, on a mild/overcast day (overcast may or may not be my favorite weather), windows and sunroof down, just enjoying the wind whipping through.

I love walking, I can walk miles on end, but running, that's another thing entirely.
unless someone's chasing me, I can't find a good reason to run lol

with all the great simulator games like such as Goat Simulator, Rock Simulator, Power Wash Simulator, and Deeeer Simulator, what I need is a Running Man Simulator, so I can reach the pleasure of life running affords one, w/o actually having to break a sweat doing it

I swear to God I wrote this, LoL! Walking is what I do for exercise; a philosophy I took on years ago choosing this because I enjoy it and I will be able to do it when I am 100, hopefully. Running, gack! It's not enjoyable for me because not only is it painful, but my mind blanks which walking allows me to think and listen to audiobooks.

I'll chime in with all the walking praise! Started walking three years ago to finally lose some weight, and my neighborhood stroll is now around four miles. Takes a solid hour, perfect for listening to podcasts, love the fresh air, and I get seriously bummed when the weather doesn't cooperate.

I don't care much for going on walks randomly during busy work weeks or anything like that, but going for a longish walk near a body of water when on vacation has been a nice relaxing thing to do. Nice get away from some busy city lifestyle.

Re: The Pleasures of Life Thread

Sorry for the double-post, but it wouldn't let me edit my original to add what I meant to say when I came into this thread [but got distracted by the idea of strawberry shortcake, which I'm about to make and eat after this].

Recently, due to many things happening in my life [that I won't divulge further into because no one needs to hear all of this right now] that are out of my immediate control and haven't happened because of anything I've done to cause them directly, I have had to find a faucet of stress relief to keep myself from being overwhelmed with stress and anxiety. I already use many forms of relief/release, such as yoga and partaking in binaural and isochronic audio self-therapy during daily meditation and prayer. Still, I knew I needed to take action and add another outlet during my free time.

That said, I've begun hiking at least once a week, if not more than that, as I can find the time. I usually go six to eight miles on those days, but I'm slowly increasing the times and lengths. This past weekend, I hiked the Walls of Jericho in northeast Alabama near the state line of Tennessee. It was unreal and such a beautiful experience. I took my drone with me and got some fantastic shots and videos I'll share on my social media sometime soon. It's something that I would encourage everyone to get into, hiking. It is such a release that I wish I had started sooner, but the timing of my doing it now has been perfect for this point in my life. I've been able to decrease and then come off my blood pressure meds and what I have been taking for anxiety, and my entire quality of life has gotten so much better.

Not only that, but the beautiful souls we have come into contact with while hiking have been such amazing people, and some really great friendships have been started because of those encounters also.

I could have have put this in the ''things it took me too long to realise thread'' but until a few years ago I didn't know the Appalachian mountains reached into that little corner of Alabama. I live in central Alabama but haven't made it up there to walk any of it. my favorite little place to walk in central Alabama is at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. it's an excellent place for going to walk away the cares of the world. it's used to be a fantastic hidden little gem but now it's so crowded on weekends, I usually only visit during the week for a walk. I've been going there ever since my dad introduced me to it as a kid but I never grow tired of all that it has to offer. a true pleasure of life

I went there last week with my girlfriend after we went to the Birmingham Zoo. I hadn't been to the zoo there since probably around 2000 or 2001. It was nice and just so peaceful, even this time of year when there aren't many blooms.

Speaking of the Appalachian, there is a push to bring the Appalachian Trail into Alabama through the AT2AL movement. Conservation groups want to extend the trail 314 miles from where it ends now [at Springer Mountain in Fannin and Gilmer counties in Georgia] to include Cheaha as the trail's start/end. I learned of this while visiting Cheaha in mid-February.

For you folks that enjoy walking: get a dog. I used to walk for excercise and my goal was to get out 3 or 4 times a week. Now it's 7 and I have a great buddy to share the walks with.
