I ran D-1 track at Northern Iowa from 1995-1998. Was on the 4X400 team with Dedric Ward, Alonzo Clayton, and Eddie Berlin.

I was the only guy who didn't play football on that relay team. All those guys made the NFL too. Our track team was awesome my freshman year and we were ranked for most of the season.

Initially I was to run 800's but Joey Woody (he ran in the Olympics) was the #1 guy and they had some stud freshman running that. I grew a little and bulked up some and ran 400's. Had some injuries issues (stress fracture twice) and decided to give track up in 1998. I graduated in 2000.

I see we have a Panther fan in this thread as well!

My roommate in college was from CR (went to Washington). Got to know a lot of people from there.

This is probably a sport most of you guys know nothing about, but I will be rowing in college in the future. I'm being recruited by some schools right now, so unless I get injured I'm positive I'll be rowing at whatever school I end up going to.

Most likely D1, unless I end up at some liberal arts school that is D3 (which is unlikely)

My nephew went from a small private HS crew to team to getting recruited by Rutgers...

He was on the team for the four years he attended there, and traveled extensively with the them, went to many offseason camps and was invited to try out for the national team a couple times...

Eventually, he herniated a disc in his back, had to quit competing but will now be coaching as a career...

Kid turned something he enjoyed into quite an experience AND a good job...

Crew turned out to be a great move for him...

I might go to an open Braves tryout just for fun. Maybe they can take on a 27 year old cop for fun just to give me a try. It would make a good story!

I probably throw 87-88 right now...which is garbage to pro standards lol. I'd like to hit 90 on the gun

Yep! I actually attend UNI currently. Good to see that there are some fellow Panthers among the OS crowd!

He was just named the #2 starter for the Rockies! That is pretty incredible. I actually was able to meet him when he came to visit our baseball team. His wife is the daughter of Digger Phelps, who coached Notre Dame in basketball back in the day.

I know. Yahoo had a great article on him the past week or so. I joke about him, but I really respect how much he must work his butt off to survive and thrive without a cannon for an arm. It's all mental, while so many athletes skate by on physical freakishness...

Absolutely go for it! I would love to go to an open tryout. I actually tried to get my arm back in shape last summer but after a week of throwing, my shoulder felt terrible. I was 88-92 my junior year, before surgery. Post surgery I could barely hit 82.
