One of the best complements to a business degree can be a math major/minor and if you were to major in Finance, Econ/Strategy, or Operations you would have to do a ton of math anyway, so you don't have to decide to do either math or business because most business outside of marketing, entrepreneurship, or accounting will be pretty math heavy.
To add on to this, I'm currently at the Whitman School of Business and Management at Syracuse (I think it's ranked somewhere in the top 30 or 40 or something in the country, and like the top 5 for graduate school) double majoring in Finance and Marketing right now. This semester, I took my first Finance, first Marketing, and first Supply Chain Management class, and the Finance in particular has gotten into some complicated math. Math was always my strong suit in high school (Got a 690 or 700 on the SATs in Math I believe), and I took AP Calculus in high school and got a 5 on the AP Exam. I ended up getting a 100 on the first Finance exam, but then I missed two weeks of class from throwing out my back and then getting the flu and ended up getting a 56 on the midterm...

But I digress lol, congrats on being considered for those great schools. Sounds like you're certainly getting yourself off on the right foot.

That's okay, I couldn't even make an IBL team.

        What's IBL?

        Exactly.

DONT let the school you go to determine what you want to do. You have that reversed, my friend.

Those are the schools that I've been talking with a lot. So I'll likely get denied from some (like Harvard, and MIT). But hopefully I can get into brown or cornell.

I can't get a scholarship for rowing because of the prop-9 thing, but schools can accept me in when I normally wouldn't get in.
Yeah, a friend of mine was on Crew at Michigan while I was going there. I don't think it was a varsity sport (so no scholarships), but they sure worked and practiced like a varsity sport lol.

You end up at any of those schools you'll be fine. Try and get into the best school you can. Those "NCAA" commercials may be a little corny, but 99% of the people do "go pro in something other than sports".

Yeah, Michigan has a club, but I've heard that they treat it like a varsity sport. Just so you know, it's extremely rare to get scholarships for mens rowing because all the scholarship money goes to basketball and football, and they then have to spend an equal amount on womens sports (resulting in A LOT of womens scholarships for rowing) because of the prop-8 thing that makes them have to give out equal scholarships for both genders.

The way it works is that a good school (like harvard or something) can accept you in when you aren't smart enough, but you still have to pay for school.

Yeah I'll most likely go to the best school that I get into. Assuming that I don't get into Harvard or MIT, that leaves me at Cornell and Brown as the best schools, and I'm pretty sure that I'll be able to get into Cornell.

I talked to the coach and he said that applying early decision to Cornell increases your chances from 1/10 to 1/3, with the average early decision applier being a "B+" student as he said. I'm already a B+ student, so that with rowing, and the coaches influence on the admission will help a lot moving up the 1/3 chance.

Your suspicion is right, it was the International Basketball League. The zany thing was the IBL operated with a 22-second shot clock (reset to 12 on fouls or kick balls). Further, on dead balls, there was an immediate inbound; no waiting, walking, talking, or thinking. It was turnover, boom, ball back in play. I've played a lot of uptempo ball in my day, but the IBL was another level. Teams averaged 126.9 points per game.

Gotta say though, that first link (the Insurance Basketball League aka New York's Only Basketball League for Insurance Professionals) sounds pretty legit. And if that doesn't work out for me, there's always Lebanon:

I saw that on Yahoo's basketball blog. Gotta love the D. Especially at the 1:53 mark. That's the way to get after it.
Also, I love how he gets cocky with the layup at the 2:12 mark.
But seriously, the D gave that game the look of a rec league game.
Also the IBL sounds like it has an interesting adaption of the game. I love the uptempo game. I don't know if you guys have heard of them but Grinell College here in Iowa runs a run and gun offense and they put up video game like numbers (and would you look at that, we're on a video game website, how serendipitous) using it. Averaged 110 a game last season. From what I understand, what they do is wait 3 passes on D and release 2 guys down the floor for a fast break opportunity.

Found this article about what Grinell calls simply "The System."

Realized that this article is a little mathy, so really only the first couple of pages are what matter

Yessir. I remember them being a featured game on ESPN many moons ago. We have a nomadic high school coach in our area who's been instituting his version of Grinnell's system at each school he's headed over the past couple of years. He's actually experienced a relatively fair amount of success. I watched his team play my brother's school a few years ago and the Grinnell-inspired squad came into the game having scored at least 90 points per in their previous three games.

Alas, they lost to my brother's school 76-25. My favorite excerpt from the article on the game:
"The System" seemed broken as the Trojans were 7-of-69 (10.1 percent) from the field and made just 3 of their 44 3-point attempts. Conversely, the undefeated Dreadnaughts scored the majority of their points on uncontested layups and converted on 34 of their 54 field goal attempts (62.9 percent).

For those scoring at home, that is 10.1% from the field, 6.8% from the arc.

Anyway, I feel like I'd have a hell of a time in the Grinnell system. At least in that case, contrary to the IBL, the system subs five fresh faces every minute or so, moving in line shifts of three.

Yep. Reminds me of a team from Iowa who implemented the Grinnell O basically because the coach figured that they were going to be terrible, so he decided to try to out-score opponents rather than beat them in the half court. Anyway, it created this gem of a game in which they attempted 100 3 pointers in a 109-25 loss against Danville (who to be fair is a juggernaut in Class 1A, the smallest class here in Iowa, and were the 1A runners-up this past season), but still, the score was a little saddening to see.
In February, the West Burlington (Iowa) High Falcons fell in convincing fashion in the team's season finale, victims of a 109-25 rout at the hands of the then-undefeated Danville (Iowa) High Bears. While plenty of eyes were drawn to the lopsided final scoreline, the game's true feat came buried further down the box score: West Burlington attempted 100 three-pointers in the loss. Equally astounding, the Falcons hit just eight of them. Continue reading →

If there was such thing as a professional NERF Basketball League, I may be able to make it, but other than that, I'd never sniff college sports, much less pro!

I'm legitimately damn good at those NERF Basketball hoops you hang on doors. I just wish that translated over to shooting a real basketball, which I'm woefully mediocre at (and out of practice now)...
