How do we all feel on wearing jerseys without names on them; like the Yankees, Red Sox, and other teams of similar nature?

Since players get moved around so often, I only get retired jerseys or those of players who will be well remembered for that team. (Elway (Retired) Champ Bailey (Bronco Legend)). I also have a generic Boise State Pro COmbat, and a Bronco Jersey with my name.

I'm not a jersey guy, but I'm not sure I understand. What do you mean what is it telling one's kids? I'd figure it'd be telling the kids one is a fan of a sports team or player. I'm not sure it'd be any worse than a kid walking in on a parent watching reality television. And by that I'm not equating reality TV to sports. I was just saying, adults have interests and they shouldn't have to be ashamed or afraid of how a child may see those safe interests.

So by this logic, does this apply to seeing grown men waiting in line or dropping $150-$200 for another grown man's shoes as well?

"I better not wearing this shirt/jersey with another man's name on it because people will think I'm a loser but if I wear these $150-$200 Jordans/Griffeys/Pennys/Lebrons then it's no problem".

Honestly, until I read this thread I had no idea how much of a big deal it was to people to see someone wearing a jersey or a shirt with another man's name on the back. Never even thought it was an issue because I was under the impression that it was another way to show support of the team, not your undeniable love for that particular player.

Personally, I feel it's still better to wear another man's name on your back who is on the team rather than putting your own name and number on the back.

What bugs me the most are people who have personalized jerseys with a famous or retired number from that team. People that use 1, 2, 6, 9, 10, 51, 57... on Cardinal jerseys. 12, 58, 75 for the Steelers. etc.

Me, either. But still, I respect their opinion. They just feel there are better ways to represent your team, without paying the outrageous price, too.

I like using my name more. I know I won't get in any major legal trouble, but I don't know if an athlete will. (Imagine if Tiger Woods had a Jersey. You'd feel kinda dumb wearing it after everything). But, as a Bronco fan, I agree it would be odd to use 7 (Elway's #). I either use 28 (B-Day) or 17 (Random Number I like)

Again, I have nothing against people who wear jersey's. They just aren't for me. With that said, the shoe comparison isn't even close to the same.

I see it as just another way of supporting a player on a favorite team. I think some people are thinking wayy too deep into the subject. I don't see how it could make someone any less of a man... that's just crazy talk. Are these the same people who think it's not manly if a guy knows how to cook ?

I'm not saying those people are calling other ones out on it, but I still find it a bit alarming that people look at it as a way of lessening their manhood.

I don't necesarilly wear a players name because I'm a big fan of that player - I'm more of a fan of the name on the front of the jersey. But I'm not going to put my own name on the back of an NFL jersey, for example, because to me that looks a lot more silly than wearing a players name. It's like you're in a fantasy land, to me. I don't play in the NFL, so I shouldn't get my name on the jersey, is the way I think about it. For baseball jerseys, I'll totally wear a number-less, nameless jersey, since I don't think it looks too bad on a baseball jersey (one of my Braves jersey is like that, and I love the thing). But for football, that'd be ridiculous.

All that said, I haven't bought a jersey for a few years. I very rarely wear my football jerseys. I have a Roethlisberger jersey and, living in Seattle, there are few players more hated, and my favorite team (the Jaguars) have bright teal jerseys. I do plan on getting a Jags jersey this year, however, since it will be the last year of this jersey design, and I think it'd be cool to have a jersey from every era for the team. My baseball jerseys (a nameless Braves home and a Chipper Jones BP jersey) get worn a lot more often, especially in the summer.
