Re: Do you watch the news?

I despise this 24/7 news cycle that has evolved over the past 15 years or so. It sensationalizes EVERYTHING only to be forgotten the next news cycle. Crazies are put on the air and allowed to spit the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. There's FAR too much interjection of opinion and less and less actual facts. Not to mention how much fear mongering, division creating, and finger pointing that goes on a daily basis.

Human interests stories bore me to tears. Not every issue or topic needs to have a face. I would like to find a more moderate news source that is built upon facts and research, but mainstream news is not the place to find it.

I'm with JBH3. Network/cable news in America is mostly a joke. And I'm talking about it all, CNN, Fox News, NBC, etc. It's all garbage. It's less about truly analyzing what's going on and more about forcing everyone to pick a side and yell. Discourse has been ruined in this country by the screaming fringe minority on both sides.

The best thing about our news here is the Weather segment and I follow James Spann on Twitter, so its much quicker and less painful. That man has got to be one of the best meteorolgists in the country, especially for Tornadoes.

I watch it sparingly. Unfortunately it is filled with bias, lies, and political correctness.

In my line of work I am likely to be on local news so I tend to watch that when I think I might be on there.

I usually watch some C-Span in the morning on the PC, bits and pieces of the PBS newshour as well as Erin Burnett's Out Front program on CNN. I SOMETIMES watch a little bit of Anderson Cooper and that's about it. Most of the news I get is from the radio and internet.

The BBC is great and it's sad that you can find better reporting about this country from a foreign source than with our news stations.

If "The Daily Show", "Colbert Report", "Real Time with Bill Mahr" and "The Ed Show" count...

                  Yup!

I'll watch local news for the weather, and local news when traveling, to check it out...

If something big is going on, I'll check out NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams...

If something truly redundant is on ESPN, I'll watch CNN at the gym...

With regard to the posts in this thread, I guess I'd fall in the "Above Average" group...

Only when I have no other choice. Such as when I'm at the gym, at the dining facility on base, etc.

I read most of my news online, so I can sort through the BS and choose what I want to read.

I don't watch the news. No point in watching TV news. Only have it on if there's a breaking story or something.

I keep up with the news online for the most part. I tend to favor NPR and BBC. If watching on tv it is PBS or the national news with Brian Williams. I love the daily show and Colbert report as well.

Try checking out npr, BBC, or PBS. Longer and more balanced stories imo.

Yep. Local 6PM news after Pardon The Interruption.

                              CNN 1 or 2 times a day.

Nope. I get all of my news online, and weather I get online as well. I cannot see the point in watching the news for only the weather. They always start to tell the weather then say "more coming up after the break", then finish telling the weather 45 minutes later. It is so much easier just to click a few buttons on the computer of smart phone and have the full forecast in seconds.
