Sorry Tim but I don't agree with this at all.

There are a lot of things I don't see everyday that I would love to get a picture or video of but this isn't one of them.

If I witnessed something like that the last thing I would think to do would be to pull out my phone and start recording.

The crazy thing is, i've heard the homicide rate in Chicago has gone up exponentially in the last few years with this year being one of, if not the worst on record.

I dunno wtf is going on in this world these days. It's enough to make even the most optimistic person question life.

        Chicago's crime is pretty bad.

Nevertheless, the murder rate in the United States today is lower than it has been since 1969.

I think a lot of it has to do with the aging population, though.

Rape, assault, and robberies are also down and total violent crime rates are comparable to what they were in the mid- to late-1970s.

Note that that graph is a little outdated (it appears to be from the late 2000s), but I would think that the trend hasn't changed much.

This Bureau of Labor Statistics graph shows a little different story, although violent crime is still falling and quite dramatically, at that.

There have been many studies by many statisticians and economists to try to explain why there has been such a drop in those types of crimes (nationwide). The best answer wasn't very popular at all. I'll just leave it at that...

I understand. And let me reiterate that if I was one of the first people on the scene, I wouldn't be pulling out my phone to record a guy dying in front of me. My best friend got hit by a car going 30 MPH 5 feet from me a few years ago on 4th of July night, and let me tell you that my first reaction wasn't to record it. I'm just saying that if I'm in the vicinity of what happened in NYC after there are no shots going on and the proper calls have been made, I'm recording the scene.

You didn't see the video? I'm not gonna post it but it looked like the first time one of the officers handled a gun in his life.

                  And, yeah...Chicago. Not surprising.

I don't think you can really fault the officers. In a crowded area like that, it's possible that bullets went through the perp and hit civilians.

Of course, it'd be best not to shoot with all those bystanders around, but tell that to the officer with a gun pointed at his face. Gunman fit the description, they confronted him, he brandished a gun, what can you do?

I'm pretty sure there are protocols for this kind of thing. You don't just go running around shooting up the place just because the guy had a gun. I mean there's one guy vs. how many cops? There are ways to diffuse the situation without having so much collateral damage.

                        Did you watch the video?

I don't know police procedures but they were told by someone who saw what happened that this guy just shot and killed someone.

NYC has cops on every single corner. From the video..it looked like only 2 cops approached the shooter. I know it's a high intense situation but maybe have other officers assist and surround the guy.

You can't be letting off shots in Midtown. They just shot and killed a guy in Times Square a few weeks back.

Too many people around man. The officer on the right looked like butterfingers. They had to be briefed very recently on situations like this.

Please don't lump all NYPD together due to the actions of one.

You fire a bullet, it's your responsibility where it ends up. I could Monday morning QB the video all day long...

There are so many variables that go into this and I could see how they are justified in the approach. My issue is simple:

Why in the hell are you not drawing down on the guy to start with? Draw down and give verbal commands. Put him in midbrain and if he chooses to perform an action which you consider an imminent threat of serious bodily harm or death do what you are justified to do.

If they had their guns drawn initially this scenario goes much better, in my opinion.

Yeah I saw the same thing on a documentary. Was interesting to say the least.

As for the shooting a sad story and its getting ridiculous on how many stories like these that are happening recently.

Has their been a spike in random shootings, or am I just paying attention to the news more?

Edit: Ok this wasn't a random shooting, I read the story, I can't believe the police hit that many bystanders with random fire. Geez...
