The dairy industry is all that pushes it. And have doctors on board that have ZERO nutritional schooling at all. But people are to trust their doctor as we are taught right? Yet the more milk and dairy they tell us to consume all time, the fatter we get.
I switched to Almond Milk too but it wasn't for the calcium intake as I only drink it in the morning with my breakfast smoothie. I use it because it tastes better with my smoothie and makes the consistency thicker.

I really don't eat cereal and stay away from cheeses but I eat a lot of green veggies, mainly spinach and kale to get the calcium I need.

I have 2% milk with cereal every Saturday(while watching college gameday, it's a tradition for me). I have cheese every day, but after reading these threads and watching Forks Over Knifes, I feel awful every time I eat.

That is due to the fact milk has a poor absorption rate for the calcium it has. That is why they have to fortify it with a synthetic vitamin D. Which fails compared to natural vitamin D you get from the sun, and plants that contain it AND calcium combined.

The levels are really low in milk for calcium per 100mg. It's lack of vitamin D naturally is what causes calcium build up. Vitamin D is needed to break down the calcium. And some people can not metabolize the "vitamin D" in milk properly.

All while drinking milk....so the flabby belly attributed to milk might be a stretch as well.
There are countless things that will effect your health and pinning it on one thing is a little off IMO.
I was just researching this yesterday (based on the Paleo diet thread) and found an article where a study was done about belly fat and milk.
In the experiment they split a group of woman (same body type, mass, etc) into two groups and then gave them the same diet. The only difference was, one group drank milk, the other didn't.
In the end, the group that drank milk had considerably less belly fat that the other group.

If you google 'milk bad or good' you'll find several articles arguing for and against it - both with science to back their claims.

For me, I grew up on milk and I've found that I feel stronger and healthier when I drink a lot.
I have zero allergies and neither does my wife or kids, or anyone in my family for that fact.

To each their own. Some people are allergic to strawberries. Are they an evil creation of nature? Or peanuts? No.
How about crab, fish, seafood? I can't eat certain seafood without running to the toilet. Is shrimp bad for mankind??? Should I look to associate shrimp with cancer?

I think any food you eat that is natural and organic can be good for you. But just like there's people in this world that love Robin Williams, not everyone is going to agree.
People's bodies are different so go with what works for you.

I used to drink probably 30-40oz a day a couple years ago. When I started to drink more water at home I cut out almost all of my milk drinking which I assume helped with my weight loss last year.

Every now and then I'll get a small glass or two just to satisfy my taste and thirst, but I rarely use milk for things other than cereal and even that is only a couple days out of the month.

Too much of anything is obviously a bad thing, but ultimately its about what satisfies you and makes you happy.

              Exactly.
My biggest gripe about today's 'SCARE! SCARE!' nation is that people can take any small fact and twist it into their agenda.
I can take 10,000 heroin addicts and ask them if they drank water as a child.
When they all say 'yes', I can say "See! Water causes heroin addiction!".

A link on the other thread pointed to America being the largest consumer of milk and having the largest amount of allergies, cancer and osteoporosis.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with America being the most overworked, overstressed and over medicated country on the planet.
Or the fact that almost all of our food has copious amounts of preservatives and additives included. Or how about how badly we've polluted our air, ground and water?
I would think that would have something to do with some of our ailments.
In Europe, people work 30 hours a week, and sleep 2 hours on their lunch break. Nobody cares about having 10 cars or mansions. It's far more relaxed and because there's so much more time in a day, people can plan and organize fresh meals instead of relying on microwaves and fastfood.

Just be sensible. Eating 15lbs of strawberries each day is probably bad for you. Same with milk, vegetables (which can also leave a lot of people feeling bloated after consumption), meat, etc.

I feel like I'm one of the few people in here who just doesn't really drink milk because because I think it tastes awful for the most part. Mainly consumed with cereal.

Could never eat just a stick of cheese either.

Re: Is drinking a lot of milk healthy?

I MIGHT have a glass of milk once every 6 months. That is really pushing it to, I am not a dairy person in general though. I don't eat cheese, don't drink milk, and don't even miss it honestly.

I am not a paleo dieter, I instead just try and view how things are intended. For instance, all other mammals don't drink milk past birth so why should I. Our general make up is we are omnivores so I try and stick to that mentality. Meat, Fish, Fruit, Veggies, etc.

I tend to ignore a lot of the "scientific research" because a lot of it is about lining pockets.

Milk tastes terrible in general unless it's consumed with cereal.

                    Other than that?

                          I'm on death's door.

Non-Fat Milk in my oatmeal this morning and a glass with my peanut butter sandwich this afternoon!

Hopefully my 8 sets of circuit training and 400 sit-ups and 400 push ups tomorrow can counteract the toxins!

I don't think I ever just drink a glass of milk.

I use it for cooking and cereal. I don't mind the taste, but it's not what I'm looking for when I go to the refridgerator.

My concern is more about said animal and how they are treated obtaining this "commodity", rather than the health issues with consumption.

However, there are much healthier alternatives with similar taste and function.

And trust, I love the taste of milks, creams and cheese, but not at the expense at how destructive these animals are treated, much more often than not.

Just wish there were better ways to enjoy this stuff guilt free.

Wow that IS a lot of milk!!

I don't usually drink plain milk. But every morning I gave an up&go which is pretty much a morning milk drink. Also after school a couple tines a weak I have an OAK which is flavoured milk.
