Re: Is drinking a lot of milk healthy?
I drank an insane amount of milk growing up, about a gallon per day. I mentioned in AA's Paleo thread that I just started doing the Paleo diet which eliminates dairy. I've felt so much better since I stopped putting any dairy in my body.
I had one small plate of ziti on Fri night at a party just to see how my body would react to cheese after five days without diary. I felt so off and I was farting an insane amount for the next 12 hours (which of course was awesome).
I'll probably scrap the Paleo thing because I love carbs but I'm pretty sure my days of consuming diary are gone."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

People also do not realize that lot of health issues and congestion/allergies can be eliminated by eliminating dairy.
That is not theory, but factual evidence on how the human body breaks down the casein, lactose, and all the hormones in milk. Not to mention pasteurization and homogenization are not a healthy processing at all. If anything consume raw milk. But no dairy at all has yielded amazing results in healing a lot of ailments whether minor or large in people.
As others have said, there is a reason we or animals don't nurse beyond a certain age. And there are far better ways to consume and absorb calcium. Milk is actually one of the poorest on a absorption scale for it.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Is drinking a lot of milk healthy?
I made the switch to almond milk recently as I'm always looking for ways to improve my diet a little at a time.
I agree with those that say milk is very unhealthy. For those that disagree, the only reason I've heard is "calcium" as if milk is the only source of calcium in the world while ignoring all the studies, personal testimonies, and nutritional information (calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, etc.) provided in this thread.Comment

Numerous studies have shown that dairy is a poor source of calcium actually LEADS to osteoporosis.
The main reason is that milk and cheeses places a huge acidic load on the body and to balance it out, the body needs calcium...where does the body store calcium? Your bones.
Thats right. When you drink milk, your body actually strips calcium from your bones. A catch 22.Comment

Look, cow's milk is designed by nature with so much fats to turn a newborn 65lb calf into a 400lb bovine rapidly. It is not for human growth or consumption. It is no more beneficial than rat's milk or elephant's milk. Human milk is for humans.
The dairy industry is all that pushes it. And have doctors on board that have ZERO nutritional schooling at all. But people are to trust their doctor as we are taught right? Yet the more milk and dairy they tell us to consume all time, the fatter we get.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 09-03-2012, 02:48 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Is drinking a lot of milk healthy?
I usually drink 1-2 glasses per day of 2% milk (usually at breakfast and sometimes dinner). So long as you don't drink too much of it, I'd say it's okay, though it is about as high as Mountain Dew in calories and has a lot of fat, so you have to be careful. I don't think 1/2 gallon of whole milk per day is too good of an idea, though.Last edited by superjames1992; 09-03-2012, 02:43 PM.Comment

I'm just amazed at the information in here. I consider myself decently informed, mostly thanks to OS and the conversations here, but had no clue about how not even that good milk is.
They push milk so hard. As far as that's what they always served at school lunch.
As always, moderation is okay. But I always thought I was being almost health conscious when I drank milk, for the calcium or vitamin D. Apparently not.

Milk has a lot of calcium. I've had two kidney stones which were calcium buildups. I used to drink a gallon a day of whole milk. Now I have to limit my intake due to kids so I do a quarter gallon a day. Get a lipid test done. If it looks fine I would say you're fine.
