I've played baseball straight through college and using that as an excuse to spit in public(even if nobody is around) is a poor one.
Expelling any bodily fluid in a public area is poor manners and disgusting.
If you tried....I'm sure you could refrain.

That's the beauty about being old - you don't care anymore (well, some don't). I'm sure it happened to you guys too. An old man's walking towards you, and right at the moment him being beside you, he would "prepare" all the stuff for spitting it, then spit it out like nothing has happened.
