Re: Big life decision... Where would you rather raise your kids?

Completely agree with BK about metropolitan areas.

My parents split and I lived in NYC with my mom and visited my father in Tampa Florida very often. From that experience, I'd choose to raise my family in a city if I have the means to do so. The difference in culture is too great and rewarding in a metropolitan area from my experience.

I feel like rural kids are almost too protected. That is my experience with my siblings from Tampa and the friends I have made at College who are from rural homes. By the time I was 11 I was doing things that my siblings in Tampa didnt start doing until they were 15 and 16 because of the nature of they city versus town.

Maybe it will be an option in the future.
Well, there it is then. Father in law was always the x-factor.

Good luck with for the present and future, 12. If your gut was nagging you on this, you were probably wise to listen to it.

Option 2 sounds like it is great for your wife, and still a good deal for you too. I wouldn't get too caught up in having all those other amenities any closer, 45 minutes is a good buffer zone between where your family would live and where the shopping etc would be.

Yeah, and I don't put it on him. It's his house. He is open to us living there and has said we could... But the fact is, he is not solid enough for me to give up what I have right now. I think it's a very viable option for us in the next five years.

Too many variables going against it. I also found out that if I transfer to the other facility, I would NEVER get approved for vacation leave due to my seniority and my shift/days off would probably be terrible. It will be better there in five or so years, when a grip of the current employees retire.

Well, we're definitely staying... At least for the next 4-5 years or so.

We found an amazing house today. We're making an offer tomorrow. It has to be a strong offer with earnest money because it will be an offer that is contingent on us selling our house first. I am hoping and praying that we get this place. It's perfect for us with where we're at. It's listed at $189K and I may go asking price. When a house has been on the market for two weeks and the offer is contingent, you have to come in strong.

            This house won't last long.

We dropped the price of our house by $7K to move it quicker. It's not a seller's market right now, that's for sure...

That's a lovely house. Love all the first floor hardwood, big open plan, EPIC sized master, huge covered patio, and still a large back yard, fenced.

Yep, come in strong on that 12. Go like Clemons to the QB

Sounds like you might have the best of both worlds here. Me personally would just pray about it and see where my heart leans as the time to make a decision draws nearer. I'm sure you both will make the right decision, Good luck

Not sure why you didn't just say the actual names of the "areas" would help people break it down for you.

Because the names of the areas are irrelevant as I described them perfectly.

I guarantee 97 percent of OS has not even heard of one of the places and 99.9 percent of OS hasn't heard of the other.

LOL, it's true. I know where option 1 is, but option 2 I didn't know about and I'm from Washington. Western WA specifically, so I'm not familiar with the rural areas of SE WA.

Agreed, but I wonder how many people on here have heard of Hanford.

Probably not many, but considering the "fun stuff" our government has there you'd think more people would know about it.

Growing up in Baker City, Oregon...I know quite a bit of Eastern Washington. Spent a lot of time in the Tri-Cities & Yakima in my younger days.

Great area, especially for raising a family.
