That said, what can you do with 300k that you can't do with 500k. Their salaries do need some adjustments.
So take the 200,000K and divide it into the 18,000+ employees and they get how much more per year??

    Not the solution.

Re: Hostess going out of business

I've seen this happen a lot in my life and it's sad when two parties can't come to a mutually and beneficial solution on both ends. I've seen companies threaten to go oversees, but invariably, the company and workers work things through at the last hour because workers want to continue to work and companies don't want to look like the bad guys, pull up stakes and leave the city and state. I've seen state government and city officials come in and try to mend both sides to take a whatever it takes attitude and not leave the city or state suffer the impending economy.

Very seldom do I see both sides throw in the towel and white flags.

It is part of the solution, but companies have dug themselves such a deep hole for a long time having the disparity of CEO's and CFO's total compensation, not including salary(stock options, bonds, pension etc) vs production workers.

I'm going to Wal Mart and stocking up on some Twinkies real quick. This sucks, I love those things.

Re: Hostess going out of business

I used to work for a large company that went bankrupt and then eventually out of business.

All CEO's, Execs, and the big men upstairs are all crooks. These same users would take in bonuses and raises 2 seconds after a bankruptcy announcement. And yes we had several in a year span.

And if you think otherwise, it's probably because you're one of them.

When someone justifies why a CEO or Exec needs a $500,000 raise, only one thought goes through my mind.

Sorry to see the company go as its been around for so long but I wont shed tears for Hostess. The people who worked there are in trouble.

First let me say that I do think a lot of them are over paid. They get paid what the market dictates though.

If a company is in trouble, top talent will stay away because they won't want to be associated with a loser. For these companies to get top talent, they have to pay more and also include guarantees in the contracts. These raises and bonuses are in the contracts or are new contracts to get them to stay on.

Should they take these though for bad performance? Are you going to walk away from that money if someone is trying to give it to you?

The fact that unions and wanting fair cost of living wage increases has become evil is mind boggling to me.
EVERY year taxes(state/city) and cost of living goes up and you expect people to make concessions?
As if these concessions are really the tipping point of a company/govt. agency being solvent?
The rally cry now is that unions and their benefits are bankrupting governments.
                          Really?
-One....they didn't realize that one day they would have to PAY those bennys?
                          Stop.
-Most people don't realize that when companies/agencies give out those benefit packages in contract talks...it's usually in lieu of raises in order to help out those companies in times of short cash flow.
                          Now they want it back.....?

I'll give you a perfect example of how twisted this has become.
In the 1970's(late)....the United FireFighters Association had a huge surplus in our pension system(because we FULLY FUND IT). N.Y.C. was broke(because they MISMANAGED THEIRS)...and asked the UFA for a loan.(you know...the things you pay INTEREST on).
We did (I believe it was more than 500 million)and the interest was a yearly stipend tacked onto our pensions. It is a separate check mailed to the retiree in December and gradually increased each year until it maxed out two years ago.
Last year...our beloved Mayor wanted to ask to have that payment stopped and actually had the audacity to call it a "Christmas Bonus"....never once mentioning that is was part of a deal to save the city.
They city reaped BILLIONS off of our payments to them through the years and now want to renege on the deal.

If you believe all the rags you read, I kind of feel sorry for you.
The amount of misinformation here is also quite staggering.
