Re: Off Topic 2013
So I just talked to my youngest niece, she is really enjoying college, got a job at college her 2nd day there on campus last week working in the computer lab. She has made 4 really good friends there already and one of her friends parents works for the movie industry. So therefore she gets all the movies before they release in movie theaters. I asked her what she is majoring in, she said political law. She wants to be a political lawyer. I said ok.
Apparently there must be high demand for this major or something because FAFSA office hooked her up, full ride all 4 years of majority grants, not loans, for being in that field of study. Amazing how life can do a 180 in one week. I remember a week ago right before she was about to leave for college she was crying and saying she wouldn't make any friends in college, won't know anybody and be forever alone.
But l told her, like I tell everybody, show yourself friendly and just say hi to people you come across. You never know what might happen. As long as you try, that is all that matters.
I'm one happy uncle.....
Niece got a job her 2nd day on campus at the school, opened up her own checking and savings account with the bank for that area on her own and went from barely having enough Financial aide, to having all 4 years covered by grants instead of loans. And she is taking 6 classes her 1st semester.
So I guess she has been listening to me after all about getting your priorities straight in life.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
So to hear her happy, hear her happy about life and talk about doing stuff and having plans for the weekend is enough to make a grown man cry. Don't take things for granted.....
Live your life and never give up hope.....
Don't matter if you grow up poor, homeless, in a foster system, raised by 1 parent, raised by grandparents or your parents are divorced. Live your life....
Don't ever let somebody tell you don't belong somewhere or that you are less then them because you didn't grow up with both of your biological parents or had the benefits and money that they grew up with.
Your future isn't set in stone. Life is what you make it. If you want something, go out and get it, eventually you will get what you want if you keep trying and keep believing in yourself.......Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
My Dad used to take us to a place that had go carts, mini golf, and water bumper boat things. The putt putt had a similar deal to that bowling alley. Everyone chose a colored ball from 4 colors, they had a lit sign at the front desk with the four colors that changed every couple minutes. If you got a hole in one while your color was lit, you won a free ride or a burger or something. It was all honor system so I figure people scammed the hell outta that placeWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: Off Topic 2013
So my (17 year old) sister went on a "first date" with this guy last night. First date in quotes because they just went to the high school football game in a group with a couple of my sister's friends. Pretty much an exploratory thing to see if they want to go on an actual date.
So my sister and her friends get home and start telling me how this guy ditches my sister all night, then after they get home he is texting her INCESSANTLY saying how sorry he is.
My sister had to work at 7 AM this morning, she called me halfway through her shift saying that this guy won't stop texting her, even after she has asked him to stop (at this point her attitude was: "No, you had your chance and blew it, move on.")
So then this kid texted her saying he left a note for her taped to our front door. I went to bed around 2:30 last night so it had to be sometime after that last night. It is riddled with spelling errors and says he's so sorry and "give me another chance because we have so much in commen [sic]"
At this point I'm thinking: this dude's a psycho. My sister gets home from work and shows me her phone. It's (about) 20 rambling texts pretty much begging her to give him another chance. She replied once after like the 5th text, asking him to stop.
So as I'm in the process of blocking his number, he calls. I answer, he gets caught off guard by a dude answering. I told him (among other things) to cool it, give her some space. He goes "Alrighty" and hung up. Then I blocked his number.
Wow, I didn't think this post was going to be this long, haha. I wasn't even really mad at him. More baffled at how pathetic he was making himself look. But I was pissed because my sister was kind of weirded out by the whole thing.
I was satisfied because it was the first time I got to perform one of those sacred big brother duties, haha. Told him to not speak to her again unless she speaks to him first, so hopefully he finally got the messageUniversity of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey
