Movies? Ain't nobody got time for that.

    Sparknotes.

I took an American Lit class last semester and got an A. I didn't read a book all semester, just looked them all up on Sparknotes.

I'll never forget when I was in 8th grade and we had to take tests over books that were on a list of books to read. It was a couple of days before the quarter ended and I was reading Seabiscuit reeeally slowly. So my mom said screw it, just watch the movie. I barely passed the quiz over the book, but it was good enough to count.

Speaking of tests on books....I remember one time I had a test on Shakespeare book and the thing is that we had to know was....who said the line and in what scene/act......

That was seriously crazy trying to figure out how to study that. I don't know how anything gets achieved by knowing who said a line and in what scene/act. It was basically a test where only those with good memory would do well in.

It had nothing to do with not being interested in the book that made me hate the test, it was the format itself. Even my fave tv shows, if you told me to do a test where I had to know who said the line, and in what season/episode, I wouldn't be able to. I could probably say the character, and describe what happened in the episode, but I wouldn't know the exact season/episode.

It has come to my attention that there's 10 seasons of Mythbusters on Netflix.

So the people who follow me on Twitter already know about this, but I'm not ashamed about it and talking does help and all that ****, so I figure I'll throw it here and let you guys have a serious moment for a bit:

Late last night (I woke up my sister, father, and mother with separate phone calls as I sat outside my house in my car), I admitted to my family that the thought of suicide has been in my head recently. Not that I think I could ever do it - I don't. I love my family too much to ever put them through that. But it's been there and that's not good because then you start thinking about doing something stupid that leads to it and blah blah blah.

So, I admitted I needed help to them. I've known I've needed help for awhile (years, actually) but the only therapist I've ever went to I lied relentlessly to and it obviously didn't help, so I stopped. I figured the only way I'd try to get help again is by telling my family and therefore having them force me along in the process.

It's hard to say why - I have a pretty good life all things considered, I'm just depressed and have an emotional personality - but it's been there. And now, hopefully, I can start to make the changes I need to have it go away.

Yeah. That's really it. Confession done.

Hey man, first step to helping yourself is admitting to yourself. As you said, you've known, but it's more then just knowing. It's taking the steps to helping yourself. Sharing your burden was wise. Depression is a battle you should not fight alone.

A lot of people here have gone through or are going through hard times or are just clinically depressed. I believe OS can be a valuable tool in situations like this. It's so much easier to air frustrations/emotions/thoughts to people you know but not personally. I can convey my thoughts in writing way better then through speech, so it's always been my go-to when something is on my mind.

Good for you, and see this through. There's a ****-ton of ugly in this world and it can be too much to bear at times, but it truly does and will get better.

You know where to find us if you need to get weight off your shoulders or just scribble down your thoughts.

Also, when they give you a list of books that they want you to choose 1-2 books from, I always just looked up the names of the books and saw if any of them were movies and/or parodied on other tv shows that I liked lol. I remember Simpsons even did a story or two that parodied Shakespeare plays, and one time my teacher actually showed it to the class so everyone would understand it better.

If any of you have their shower/sink drain clogged because of hair, get Zip-It. It works great. So simple, so effective. Works like a charm!

Beantown, not sure how to help you for two reasons:

                                1) As you said, you don't think you could actually go through with it.
                                2) I've never had any intention of suicide myself.

There is a caveat to #2 though, because I've always wondered how people would react if my life ended suddenly. This is more in a selfish way, like making people regret things they've ever said or done, or how much my presence mattered to them, etc. Never actually contemplated suicide, though.

As for #1, if there's anything I can say to talk you down (doesn't matter how intent you are or ever have been on it), is that as I was talking about my grandmother's death just the other day, the thing that always saddens me the most and makes me break down is the thought that "that was the end." Their existence is now gone, and anything they had previously is void. Obviously not for the people around them, but I simply think about the nothingness, or their final moments possibly, or whatever it is. Always chokes me up. Despite any sadness, I always think about everything I do live for, even if it's for another laugh or a good tasting meal. Doesn't matter... because I know that once it's all over (and we live for such a short time as it is), then it's all over.

I might as well leave you with this Alter Bridge tune, if for any other reason that I think it's a very good song. I hope the message comes off strong for you and others, though:
