It's good to make alcohol something that's "not kept secret" so you can bust their curiosity early and make sure that alcohol is "no big deal" so they don't go crazy with it later in HS and college.

Of course, some people go crazy anyway. Alcohol was never really "hidden" from me growing up so I was comfortable with it from the start. I think I had my first kamikaze at 14 or 15. Only had a couple instances of throwing up and my "drink to get drunk" phase was very, very brief.

Lol...my parents did not arrange for me to try alcohol per se'. However we had company coming over and mom was getting liquor from the cabinet to have ready for drinks.

I was sitting at the kitchen table and saw she had a bottle of Scotch. Being the Star Trek fan I am...hey Scottie loves to drink that stuff! And my then 11 year old self was sure it would taste like butterscotch!

I asked mom , "Can I try some Scotch?"

Without missing a beat she said "Sure!" She poured me a half shot and put it in front of me like it was apple juice lol.

I did not like the smell of it but took a blast of it anyway. It tasted worse than the worst medicine I had ever had. I damn near was convulsing at the table and, still working, mom casually asked "So, do you like it?"

She never needed to worry about the liquor in the house after that.

I also went through a BRIEF drink to get drunk phase when I was 18 but that was all of 3 weekends and you had to turn your keys in at the beginning of the night so no one would drive. Still hated the taste of beer and liquor so I didn't see the point.

Now...I like the rare Malibu and Coke and an infrequent drink of my wife's wine but that is it.

I wasn't too big of a drinker in HS, my parents always offered me a beer every now and then but I never really felt like drinking it. At random parties I'd only have a little bit.

Off Topic 2013

So my best man for my wedding was talking about my bachelor party last night. He mentioned getting together a group and heading to Cincinnati for a Reds game in August.

I was floored. I've only seen the Flyers play since they're the only local team I'm a fan of. Make a long weekend out of it, that would be the sickest.

He mentioned maybe going to Buffalo for a Bills game but it would be preseason so we'll probably do Cincy. Can't wait!

For my first marriage I went out the night before and got completely trashed. It was a terrible wedding. I was throwing up pretty much every 30 min. I should have known that was a omen that it wasn't going to work out.

That's why I'll never throw a bachelor party the day before the wedding. I threw a bachelor party in June and if the wedding was the next day, we'd have all been miserable.

Mine wasn't even a bachelor party. My sister invited me out with some mutual friends and I kinda went overboard.

Texas is serious about it's footbal...



54,347 in attendance for the state championship game for the high classification we have (5A DI). There were games at 12:00, 4:00, and 8:00 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Even the 12:00 Thursday game for 1A drew 8,000 and that's with it being shown regionally on Fox Sports Southwest/Houston. If the games weren't on TV it might easily fill all 80,000 seats.

Ironically enough, they broke the record that was set last year lol.
