I sometimes bug out when I'm in the ocean. There typically aren't sharks around DE beaches like there are in Cali and Florida and even NC, but once that thought creeps into your mind you freak out a little bit.

Beaches here are so ****ed that you can't really catch waves without getting beached, but I remember going a football fields length out to to get to a nice sandbar in my younger days. It was a long terrifying swim to get there sometimes. And your mind makes the scariest shark shapes out of the water sometimes.

I swear that was a 50 foot monster shark braaaaah

It's the absolute worse when you step on smetnhing that isn't sand, or worse, have something hit your leg.

Sure, it may have been just sea weed, but your reaction is that as a box jellyfish or giant squid.

I am 28 years old and terrified of the ocean. I refuse to go in. I'm cool on a big boat, but actually putting myself in the water has no chance of happening. I'll stay right on the beach. I know it's silly, but ever since I was a little kid I've had this fear that there is a shark out there with my name on it. Like I said, silly, but it's a real fear for me.

That's one reason I hate the ocean. I am ****ing paranoid of stepping on a poisonous ****ing rock looking like sea creature or getting stung by something deadly.

In Massachusetts beaches. Where I'm pretty sure there aren't many, if any, of those kind of things.

          Screw Nature.

I hate the ocean/bodies of saltwater. It has nothing to do with sharks, jellyfish or anything of the like... I just hate it.

I've lived in DC (where the ocean is a short drive away) for 2 years, and have been ~10/15 minutes away from the beaches in California for the past almost 4 years now (both Laguna Beach when I lived in SoCal and Pismo Beach currently) and have been to the beach once in my entire life.

Nothing about them is appealing. However, if you were to put me near a lake my shirt would be off and I'd be jumping in within a heartbeat.

So, you don't care for the ocean at all? Like, looking at it, walking a beach, driving along a coastal road? But you like a good lake?

Do you prefer the quiet of the mountains, or even the desolation of the desert?

Nope. Don't enjoy anything about the ocean, we drive past the beaches all the time living on the coast. I avoid the beach at all costs. We were within 50-75 yards of the beach for the Fourth of July this year to try and see the fireworks (nobody got to see them, the cloud cover was too low for anyone to see sadly) and that's the closest I've been to a beach in the last 4 years.

However I do love mountains (and forests in mountains especially.) Deserts are take it or leave it, depending on the type of terrain around. If it's something with plenty of rocky outcroppings and such I'll enjoy it... but something that's pure flat sand with disgustingly hot weather? I can pass.

That's cool....nothing wrong with not preferring the ocean.

I love the seaside, mountains, forests, lakes, rivers.

I do not like flat, wide open, treeless areas, desert areas (even with hills), nor valleys for the most part unless there's lots of greenery and trees w/visible mountains.

I was at the beach in Ocean City, MD for vacation in early August, during shark week, and the lifeguards had to clear the beach because there was what looked like a fairly large shark just cruising along the shoreline not too far out.

It was pretty wild, there were crowds of people walking down the beach following it to see what happens.

I've talked about my lake exploits.

This year has been a complete let down in that department. I've been so focused on getting my finances and personal **** squared away for the military that I have only been in the lake twice. Everyone has also been really down about the lake since my brother in law drowned.

I've been up a few times. I was even up there yesterday because one of my friend's just got a new (new to him) bass boat and wanted to put it in the water. I just haven't been in the actual water or even really been wakeboarding.

I like the beach, but I'm not too giddy about the ocean. I actually prefer the beach at night. I'm not a huge fan of just baking in the sun all day or fighting dehydration in the heat, while I try to catch a buzz.

I'm excited to go to Daytona because the fact that the beaches aren't so "man made". I like that it's more of a slow decline/slope into the ocean. When you go to the Gulf, there are a lot of sandbars, weird currents with the waves, and the floor of the water is up and down and up and down.. it's annoying.

I'm also looking forward to driving on the beach. They stopped it for a few years after a lifeguard ran over a lady and killed her, but they allow it again now. My dad was talking to me about how last time he went, he was able to ride his motorcycle down the beach.

I never enter the lake anywhere that you have to walk in and step on nasty mud and stuff.

It stays about 20 foot-ish deep around our dock most of the year. Also dove off the boat in parts of the lake that are reported to being close to 400 ft deep...

I have tickets for the UConn-Michigan game on Saturday (Saturday Night Football on ABC btw). UConn sucks, due to their coach and QB. This is still the biggest home game ever for them, though. I have seats next to the band and student section, so I am going to get pumped up by the noise. Another negative thing is that it is going to rain. Sitting in the rain watching UConn lose is not fun.
