What are you using that drops to 45%? Each product reacts differently. They shouldn't, but in my experience, the PS3 to the 360, cell phone to the laptop.. each of them have different signal strength in the same areas of the houes.

My ps3, I'm across the hallway which is not a far walk. My house is not big, 1st floor, 1br apartment to get an idea, and it's fine if I go in the main area where the router is and play, but if I go in my room, it goes to hell on me.

So I guess what I mean is, what's a good router with greater signal strength that stretches farther, if that makes sense.

My PS3 has the worst signal strength of all of my electronics. The wireless is bad enough on the PS3 as it is. Moving it to a different room kills the strength for me.

How the hell can this thing not function when I just go across the hall beats me. But I need a better solution that's for sure. Any recommendations?
I'd check out what The Wirecutter recommends.

Routers are so hit or miss. I've gotten ones that are "highly recommended" before and it was worthless. I've gotten ones that had sketchy reviews and never had a problem.

One of the best routers I've ever owned was the D-Link DIR-655, but it's life just wasn't long enough. It's quite affordable though, and has great wifi and wired speeds. You often get what you pay for. Any time I've spent less than $50, I've never been impressed in the long run.

Their good router recommendation I might consider myself as I need a new one. It's between that one and the Netgear WNDR4300.

I'll have to look that one up, thanks doc. Yea I hate wifi with a passion, it's ridiculous, that I get a weak signal, when my router is literally 10 steps away. I mean c'mon.

So last night around 11pm I started to notice a faint rumble that sounded like thunder. I checked radar and there was nothing on it. It continued for about 15-20 minutes. So I did a search for "loud booms in central nc". That took me to a news story about Marines at Fort Bragg doing artillery training. Turns out they were firing their howitzers. Crazy that we could hear it about 50 miles away, one time it even shook the light fixtures.

No lie... I used to LOVE falling asleep to when the 0341s (mortarmen/tube strokers) would be doing training at night. Stuff is almost a substitute for a thunderstorm (which we don't get out here) and I'd fall asleep like a baby. Granted, we weren't far at all from the training sites but it was like a nice warm comfy sound blanket.

Once I figured out what it was I thought it was pretty cool. But for a few minutes before that I was wierded out and had visions of zombie movies/war of the worlds etc...

Bought my first Halloween costume since I was 6 today. I didnt realize how efficient these party stores have gotten at the process. They had a wall of all costumes with numbers assigned. I asked for one and bam instant checkout. I thought it would be a more cumbersome process for some reason.

I was gonna be Blackbeard, but they ran out of that. Then I was gonna be General Zod since the party's host will be superman and we have a troll v troll friendship. But that costume looked too cheesy. So I went with the lame and generic Captain Mile High Pilot. Meh just pass me the chips and dip and a beer.
