Re: News that make you say WTF?

I'm saying I disagree with the contract despite it having a reason or purpose. I'm not indulging the girl. She is in fact owning up to her "indulgence" rather than whining and crying about the situation. She stood up for what she felt was her right (and I agree with her on that), but also has the responsibility to accept her actions within the system. Clearly the school didn't exactly enforce the contract until after-the-fact since the student didn't even sign it and was still allowed to walk and participate. We had to sign etiquette contracts before we could participate and walk in graduation.

With that said I'm thankful my school didn't place such restrictions on us. If a kid wants to literally put a feather in their cap (or paint Beiber's face on their cap) to celebrate their single day of recognition that is graduation then I don't see the harm so long as it is isn't explicit or hateful. That's why I think the contract is silly. Follow it or not, its still silly to me.

Re: News that make you say WTF?

When I graduated high school many years ago, we had no contracts to sign. You just showed up. So therefore you had some kids that came with wrinkled gowns because they didn't know it had to be ironed. Hell had a few wear gowns that weren't official gowns, but of some what similar color that belong to one of their relatives school graduations or from their 8th grade graduation. Some kids wore sandals, some wore regular clothes.

All in all, my high school didn't give a crap.

And there lies the rub and the reason for the rule...high school seniors, as a whole, aren't renowned for their ability to refrain from behavior that others might find explicit or hateful. That's why they make rules for them to follow.

And the contract...that's so you can't try and plead you didn't "know" the rules.

This leads me to the whole hyper-pc/participation medals bs and I don't wanna go down that road.
Who was getting "up in arms" about it? I was simply saying how odd and stupid of a day it was, especially for a grade school, and how dumb for the teachers, who by the way were the only ones that participated in that day, was ignorant to allow it to happen. I wasn't looking to protest it, I wasn't going to start a petition to make sure that it doesn't happen in my child's school.

I only posted it because it really did make me say WTF.. like what this thread is all about.

For you to say that we need better things to do, looks like you should be following the same advice if all you did was post in this thread to complain about people.. lol

Either way, you and Fresh got your panties in a bunch (must of participated in cross-dressing day)

Again, what kids want to do is not what bothers me. I love it when kids can make decisions regardless of how old they are. I love seeing my niece wear rain boots, rain coat, and her hat on a 100 degree sunny day. I wouldn't have posted the story if one day these kids started wearing the other gender's clothes, and to make these said kids comfortable with the situation, the school went out of their way to make a day for them.

But the reason I posted this story is because it was suppose to be the kid's spirit week. They reported that the "kids were the ones who thought of the idea" But if that's the case, why in the world did none of the kids participate on cross-dressing day for their spirit week?

I love reading posts like this. Coming in to a thread saying they need better things to do, when in return, the only thing they contribute to the thread is whining. Maybe we all need better things to do! splat:

I was talking about people, a group of people. If I was just referring to you I would have mentioned you by name or quoted you. I was mostly referring to the parents.

But it is obvious from your post that I am indeed the one with my panties in a wad, not you, but me.

Really, because it sounds like you are almost there. Don't worry the PC police are always looking for help. If you aren't a member yet, you soon will be.

I only posted it because it really did make me say WTF.. like what this thread is all about.
Then what are you calling me out for? I was responding to the article you posted. Isn't that what you wanted?

LOL, I love this classic argument. It's a forum. I am responding to what I feel like with my opinion. It almost seems as if that is what the medium is there for in the first place.

Either way, you and Fresh got your panties in a bunch (must of participated in cross-dressing day)
I would never participate in something so unnatural. Oh the huge manatee!

Again, what kids want to do is not what bothers me. I love it when kids can make decisions regardless of how old they are. their way to make a day for them.
There was going to be a damn day anyway. It's not like the principal got on the intercom and said "Students, tomorrow is dress like a tranny day, well because I am feeling controversial." We had spirit days in school and always got to pick the theme. If this group of kids wants to do this that is fine. They think it is funny, to them it may be, I have no idea what children that young find funny anymore and I certainly won't judge them. I wore a pair of Jnco jeans once, a far worse transgression to human society than this theme day.

But the reason I posted this story is because it was suppose to be the kid's spirit week. They reported that the "kids were the ones who thought of the idea" But if that's the case, why in the world did none of the kids participate on cross-dressing day for their spirit week?
Well that is different from the reason you stated earlier. I am losing you.

Hard to bunch up a thong, but whatever.

I guess we should just refrain from discussing these stories altogether if people cannot separate themselves from the articles they post. I don't think either of us were referring to you when we made the "mountain of a mole-hill/up in arms" comment, but maybe now I might be incorrect.

And really. Nobody's ever seen a little boy run around in their mom's/grandmother's high heels? Or play "dress up?" Isn't that part of, you know, playing and using their imagination? Obviously my experience and knowledge is only limited to my childhood, but I don't think its as uncommon as you think.

But the reason I posted this story is because it was suppose to be the kid's spirit week. They reported that the "kids were the ones who thought of the idea" But if that's the case, why in the world did none of the kids participate on cross-dressing day for their spirit week?
Because parents. Look at the comments in the article and in the comments section. You think those people are gonna let Sally go to school in a t-shirt with Buzz Lightyear on it?

Re: News that make you say WTF?

How about some WTF news to change the subject, eh?

Chicken bones, sticky fingers and the smell of hot sauce recently cracked the case of two allegedly thieving brothers.

A Checkerboard Pizza delivery man was robbed at gunpoint on May 31 as he tried to deliver an order of chicken wings to the 800 block of E. Geranium Avenue. Karheem S. Kirk, 19, and his 16-year-old step-brother, identified in court documents as TS because he is a minor, were arrested after a pile of chicken wing evidence was allegedly discovered on them and in their home.

"Officers patted TS down and noted his hands were slimy and sticky, and he smelled of hot sauce commonly used by restaurants on chicken wings," the complaint said.

                  ...

"Officer Mack saw a plastic bag on a bed and what appeared to be chicken bones near the bed," the complaint said. "Officers arrested Kirk and TS and placed them in the back of a squad. The two spoke, and TS said he ’should have washed his hands.’ "

Nope, I wasn't. I was having a conversation with Fresh about the article. He gave his opinion, I gave mine. I stated that I don't understand the day, and I don't understand why the teachers would think about this day, and actually think it's a good idea. It's not about being PC.

Then what are you calling me out for? I was responding to the article you posted. Isn't that what you wanted?

Umm, because you posted that people who make big deals about these type of topics need better things to do. Which is me. I posted the article, so you were talking about me.

LOL, I love this classic argument. It's a forum. I am responding to what I feel like with my opinion. It almost seems as if that is what the medium is there for in the first place.

Yes it is your opinion, but your post didn't provide anything to the conversation. All you did was huff and puff and say we need better things to do. Then you go into the topic of PC, and then ending it with, Well I don't want to go further into it. huh? That's like saying... Brian Scalabrine is the greatest basketball player ever, but I won't tell you why. All you did was post... to complain. If you need to complain about a thread or post, like I said, you should find better things to do. All you need to do is ignore the post if it bothered you.

I would never participate in something so unnatural. Oh the huge manatee!

Yes it was going to be a "damn" day anyway . but why make it a cross dressing day? Why couldn't it be a dress like a tramp day or dress like a pimp day? I'm not judging the children in this, maybe that's where you're getting me confused. I'm judging the mentality of the teachers/faculty that decided that this day is a good idea. If a kid, even my kids, decided that one day they wanted to wear their brother's clothes, or sister's clothes, then great! I wouldn't think twice about it. But for their school to pretty much say that this is normal and is ok, is where I find it wrong.

Well that is different from the reason you stated earlier. I am losing you.

Actually no, it's just in relation to it. I posted the story because it made me say "WTF" that the teachers and faculty agreed to have a day like this. Then someone mentioned that it was the kids idea to make it a cross-dressing day, so I posted that.

If you can't take the heat....

Ah nvm, it will be lost on you. If it makes you feel any better I don't like reading posts like yours.

Hey we're in the same boat! So does your post make you feel better? I didn't mean to hurt your feelings!

You responded to my 3 sentence paragraph with a mini-diatribe of sorts. Who is making the big deal here?
I'm not making a big deal about the actual article I posted. I made a big deal about people posting just to complain. There's a "Grind my gears" thread for that.
