Re: News that make you say WTF?

That was so depressing to listen to. A guy who lost is way somewhere.

He may not have killed anyone else, but he surely has ruined the lives of those ATC gentlemen and pilots who "couldn't do enough to talk him down safely." That, and of course his loved ones.

The guy felt really bad about it, apologized to them. Human brains and mental health is weird.

Re: News that make you say WTF?

        So this one is interesting.

The guy murders two people in 1976 and is undiscovered until recently and is convicted for a duration of two life terms, however because the penalty of "life in prison without possibility of parole" didn't exist until just one year later in 1977, he can potentially be out after serving his first 14 years!

You can't make any of that up.

Interestingly, I actually thought almost about that very thing. In my mind, people are placed in prison for two reasons:

          1) To pay for the crimes they committed.
          2) To prevent the criminal from repeating their offenses.

I don't know the main's history the past four decades, but for all we know he remained an upstanding citizen and may fight for even less than that time as a way of stating that he is in no such condition (from age) or mindset of acting intolerantly again.

Of course, #1 still applies but as you said he would probably be a "free man" at this point anyway, and the lawyer can now sit and say he spent the past forty years ruing his past and feeling as if that's punishment enough, heh.

          Spoiler

Regardless, I'd say he sure probably feels pretty almighty having beat the system all this time.

Not as much as it would suck to be in jail for 14 years.

Other than the time he escaped in 1986 he's spent most of his free time in jail and was still in jail when these new charges were brought upon him:

Rodney Halbower accused of raping and killing two of six women who died in ‘Gypsy Hill murders’ in California and Nevada

I can't find his current sentance but it sounds like he has a lot of time to go before he can even start to think about being paroled for his new charges.

^ Didn't read about all of that. Fully would have expected that though. Guess he didn't transform into an upstanding citizen after all.

The story you linked said he was currently in jail and had to be extradited from Oregon to California for the trial.

I'll be honest, I brushed by some parts. I did read that part though, and when I did I thought he was being transferred for the hearing or something. I obviously wasn't really thinking too hard about that part of the story.

Re: News that make you say WTF?

Read a story talking about most hacked passwords.

Seems like millions of people actually use password and 123456 as their password.

Are people that naive. The suggested method is to use random word phrases along with numbers/special characters and to have diff ones on all sites(so if someone hacks your email, they cant just figure out your social media or other passwords so easily).

Whoever suggested that, how often do they remember passwords? It's hard enough remembering my passwords as it is because of sites requiring capitals, numbers, special characters, and some sites dont let you reuse an old password so you already have so many variations.

I probably should write down my passwords because when I need to log in anywhere outside my computer, I forget half the time since mine are stored on the password manager.

I had my wifi password set up by someone who knows those types of password tips. They made it so complex that I forget it most times.

For example, OperationSportsRocks would become 0p3rat10n5p0rt5R0ck5. Confusing I know. Good news, you are less likely to be hacked. Bad news, you're probably forgetting your own password.

I just wish websites/systems wouldn't tell me if my password isn't strong enough, or ask me to reset it every 3-6 months. If I get hacked, that's on me.

There are password tools now so it creates a long random password and you only have to remember your password for the tool. The issue with those is that if it gets hacked, they have all your passwords.

I generally create a formula and then use that with a different starting point. So the password is different but you only need to remember 1 formula. Unless someone hacks multiple accounts and then spends time doing analyzing them, it would be hard to figure out. Then you can change the formula every so often.

I turn on 2 factor authentication wherever I can. That way even if you get my password, you still can't login.

Yeah, I have one of those through my PC maintenance/antivirus software. It's nice, however it will get confused if you are asked a security question while logging in or if you log into one site then log into another right from there (i.e. Amazon to Chase for my Amazon Prime rewards card or Dell to Dell financial services) and mess up the passwords. That's why I also keep them all typed in a OneNote notebook page (that is password protected).

Burger King has a Reverse Happy meal because "no one is happy all the time".

Has different "moods" lol DGAF mood, salty mood and so on....

On the flip side of that, seems like the Beyond Meat burger has been growing in popularity. Possibly billion dollar business. Instead of cheap gimmicks, why don't those burger chains invest in stuff like that?

Religious and/or health reasons are why people prefer food like that, and it's cheaper to make and store. I've seen some chains advertise it and have done real well. I've even seen grocery stores with shelves completely wiped out because so many people wanted to just make their own at home.
