Re: Uncommon Opinions
I agree, but I have a super small sample size to work with, as I don't listen to much rap. Rap is really the only type of music I don't enjoy that much (along with Dubstep/Dance "music").MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Uncommon Opinions
90s Rap is awesome. Very little rap today is tolerable to me. Eminem is really the main rap guy today that I'd actually go out and buy a CD just to listen to. Lil Wayne is ****.
Anyway, my uncommon opinion...
I think Foxy Shazam is one of, if not the best band on the planet today. The guys just rock. Only bands that come close to me that are still together are the Black Keys, the Foo Fighters, Rob Zombie, and the Silversun Pickups. I would say Metallica and Tool, but it seems like it's been forever since they've released new material.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Entire career. If you haven't noticed, he tells stories about his life. I was listening to "Sing for the Moment" the other day, and it tells a really good story. A lot of Lil Wayne songs just downplay women, making them look like items, not people. Jay Z, well....Red Sox|Patriots|Celtics|UConnComment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Lil Wayne is meh, not my cup of tea. He used to have good production and now that can't even save him anymore IMO.
As for Jay-Z...I don't understand how someone can listen to Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, or American Gangster and say he doesn't tell a story or make sense. It may not be your cup of tea (and it's not mine either) but that doesn't mean he doesn't make sense.
That would be the equivalent of me saying "You know...the Beatles don't make any sense. Their songs don't have any depth to them. It's all terrible love songs that employ the terrible use of "you" to make girls scream and think it's about them".
And this leads me to another, related or unrelated point depending on one's perspective.
You can't judge an entire genre based on what you hear on the radio.
No. I think this needs to be said, because people are still doing it. Stop doing it. No. Seriously. Stop doing it.
It makes you look ignorant of the genre you are disparaging.
Just because Justin Bieber makes terrible music does not mean that Pop music itself is terrible (Pop music as a term needs to die though as all it is making music that targets the largest demographic possible.). Just because I am of the opinion that Taylor Swift makes equally terrible music (I do have a thing for tall women though....ermm >.>) does not mean that Country music is terrible (and a lot of country music fans consider her in the same category as Bieber, which is a pop artist). Just because Lil Wayne makes terrible music does not mean that Hip Hop is terrible either. Please don't make me bring up Nickelback
@JazzMan
As far as today's hip hop being worse than 90's rap. I can't disagree more. Just like some of THE WORST songs imaginable get played on the radio now....some of THE WORST songs imaginable were being played on the radio back then. If anything I think the quality of music has risen, if not for the simple fact that it's far more easier to find artists you like because of the internet.
But let's see, the 2000's (We can even shorten it to just this past decade) have produced Lupe, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Kanye West just to name a few (tho I'm missing a lot I'm sure). All of those guys have platinum selling albums. All of those guys have or had (in the case of 50 since he's pretty much a stock broker now) fans that span across all demographics and all over the world.
But excluding that, do you realize how many OG's from the 90's are or were STILL rapping for the past year to two years?
Snoop, Talib Kweli, Jay Z, Busta Ryhmes, Common, MF Doom, Mos Def, Dr Dre (who's too busy trolling/selling his "I can't even afford these because they cost as much as my mortage" headphones), Ice Cube, De la Soul and so many more.
So if you wanted that 90's feel all you had to do was look for it and it's not hard to find. At all. Even now with there's a new artist getting buzz like Joey Badass, who provides that flashback into the 90's again for so many people with the way he ryhmes and the type of production he likes to spit over.
But really, I probably took this way too personal, but I'm sure a lot of you guys would also if I said something like
Linkin Park > Black Keys or
Green Day > Rage against the Machine or
Nickelback > ACDC
God that gave me chest pain just typing out those comparisons. I'll stop before I give myself a heart attack from even suggesting that blasphemyComment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Outside of two albums I'm not a big Eminem fan. I recognize his skill for his craft, but I wouldn't consider myself a stan to any degree. Same for Jay-Z.
The guys that I find myself connecting more with and enjoying more are OutKast, Mos Def, KRS-One, Brother Ali, and Ghostface Killah.
