Re: Uncommon Opinions
I was forced to watch Snookie and J Wow last time I was at MEPS in Montgomery. Its was terrible and I like I said on here before, I almost ran through a third floor window.
The even more messed up part is, I would have almost preferred it to later that day listening to those two chihauhaus on First Take going back and forth.Comment

I abide by all your rules and your code of conduct when I post. I have never had any issues with any moderator or regular user on this site. There is nothing wrong with anything you mentioned that I said, other than people taking the "college athletes are like slaves" post to heart. I promise you I am not the first person that has ever said that. Also, its the unpopular opinion thread, or at least I thought it was, so that can be counted as my unpopular opinion.
And to be 100% honest with you, I could care less about becoming a "valued member of your community". I use this site to talk about NCAA, Madden, The Show, and 2K. That's it. I'm not looking to cause any problems, just talk about the sports video games that I love.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I know you guys want to see the pay for play convo die, but I'm curious how much pay are we talking? Would it be enough that schools could eliminate scholarships & stipends as retaliation to the NCAA ruling? Also, would it be illegal for schools to do so?
Like, say these guys win their lawsuit against the NCAA, and athletes are awarded payments. Would it be enough to cover scholarship expenses and everything else that comes with full rides?Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Have you ever wanted to coach or play basketball at the next level, but something prevented you from achieving that dream? Fret no more. Ask me about SimWorld Hoops to see how you can create your virtual self, and follow your path from the prep-level to the pros.

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Title IX kills the discussion unless it is changed.
Are there even that many schools that could pay players? How many are that profitable? We hear about revenue but how much do the schools clear in profits? Don't they put those profits back into the program anyways? (Facility upgrades + scholarship funds + + advertising + program funds like travel/lodging/equipment/physical therapy equipment/coaching staff/recruitment). Doesn't the school also help high profile athletes brand themselves and give them a platform to make a bunch of money in the future?
There would be absolutely NO reason for about 80% of colleges to keep their programs. The best kids would go to the most high paying programs. They would dominate. They would then continue to provide all of the revenue. The 80% get washed out and likely just kill off their programs. There is no way you can make it equal among all these schools. The resources aren't even close to fair. Then if you make it even across the board that isn't fair. The backup LT on San Jose State getting as much as the Heisman trophy winner? Oh yea that'll fly.
So many questions & variables to ask on this subject, IMO. It's not cut and dry.Last edited by NDAlum; 07-20-2013, 10:25 AM.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Speaking for Louisville, their athletics department windfall goes towards athletic facilities (new baseball field, new soccer field, training, etc) and general campus upgrades. That place is almost unrecognizable compared to 10 years ago almost exclusively because Tom Jurich brings in the cash. I'm sure some goes into academics and scholarship, but that's not as easy to observe.Comment

Personally, I'd say the best compromise would be allowing them to make money off their likeness on their own if they can. Give them a cut in jersey sales, let them sell autographs, etc.
If not, there's no feasible way to pay all these guys without more problems coming up in the very near future.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

I was 100% on the pay the players bandwagon, but definitely being educated in this thread. Complicated issue.
Went to Google it and can not believe that EA only paid $545,000 a year for the NCAA license!
