    Former D1 athlete...

Free education (well outisde of a few grand...non-football athlete)
    Free equipment
    Free clothing
    Free food
Free travel (probably 40-50 air plane rides + buses)
    Free lodging on the road
    Per diem to eat
    Free physical therapy
    Free healthcare
    Free personal training
Free facilities to work at (phenomenal can't be touched in normal world life)

The issue to me is the lack of freedom to not play college sports. No person should be made to go to college if they don't want to. This way we could get rid of the people who want to make money immediately. You can't put a value on the education that you receive in school. Create a minor league system for those who don't care about the education aspect and let them make money there or go straight to professional sports.

A lot of these kids don't have families that can give them money to compensate for not being able to have a job like most other college kids. That amount of money would be enough to buy groceries/pay for gas/etc.

Nobody is a slave to anyone. That is an abhorrent and offensive statement to make.

If they don't want to play football because they're not getting paid at the college level to do so, nobody's holding a gun to their heads.

That and not receiving royalties for sales of things like jerseys or their pictures on ads/media. That's why there is the big court case.

But pulling out the slave reference is utterly ridiculous.

Lol give me a break. You must not be very intelligent to think I was trying to be offensive by saying that. You also must have never played college sports either.

Now if you want to take it to a literal sense of comparing them to slaves, here ya go http://spectator.org/archives/2009/0...e-ncaas-slaves

I was on financial aid and received $500 per semester to go clothes shopping. I had to go to specific stores to use the money. Yes I came from a single mother household where the income was low.

Never ever will it make senses to draw a literal comparison between slavery and anything that involves the free choice of a person.

And I understand using the players' likenesses. I believe players should get royalties for those types of things, but I don't think athletes are "scraping" by because they have a free-ride through school.

My University gave me that money. The NCAA doesn't give me anything. The school was going to give me a % for scholarship but financial aid was better for my situation.

With that I'll bow out. Some people have their point of view and are stuck to it. I have mine and I'm not going to see any other vision. I lived the D-1 life. It was awesome. I didn't feel like a slave at all. It was amazing. For all the FREE stuff I listed above I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Loved every minute

Honestly, I don't think college athletes should get paid any more than what they are getting. If the guy with this big lawsuit was worth a *** ****, he probably wouldn't be bringing it up. $20,000 + worth of tuition and all the networking possibilities in the world is a lot to look at. Even players who suck have a chance to make something out of themselves and have doors open to them some people would love to have.

Of course a lot of universities are profiting far more than they are giving back to their players, but that happens everywhere you look. They are basically investing in these guys hoping to get some return from the get go.

If a student is poor then FASFA should be available for whatever the scholarships do not cover.
Wal-Mart doesn't operate under the guise of being a non-profit.

Personally I don't see a way to pay athletes that would be fair to everyone. There is no way a non-BCS school could afford to pay students. I work at a University, and they already budget a loss of about 6 million a year for athletics. If they had to pay athletes on top of that, they wouldn't be able to afford to keep some of the teams around.

The money shouldn't come from the individual universities, it should come from the NCAA.
