Re: Uncommon Opinions
I'd like to recant this statement. At the time I had watched like 3 episodes and they were bad. A few months after the fact, I powered through the slow beginning and caught all the way up. It's now in my top 5 TV shows of all time.Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 07-15-2013, 11:42 PM.NFL - Vikings

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Saying "IMO" doesn't give you a pass to say something ridiculously stupid.
For example, just because you say "IMO Slava Medvedenko is the greatest PF to ever play" or "IMO Ryan Leaf is a better NFL QB than Peyton Manning" doesn't mean you shouldn't be called out on it.
Slight internet pet peeve of mine.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Rap was about lyrics, not these 1 hit punchlines and gimmicks. The standard was simply higher. Now, these executives see a young kid that looks fly and has a unique voice and they know they can market thàt. You don't have to be talented anymore. People will listen to anything.
I know you or others can come back and say "wait, kanye west isn't talented? Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, etc". Its not that they aren't talented. They don't put out the same quality as consistently. It's not what they rap about either. Some artists tell a story, others ramble about different parts if their life, some keep it pretty simple, but keep it LYRICAL. I'm sorry but most rappers I hear today release songs with freaking nursery rhymes compared to 10+ years ago. The best artists today get zero love too. The most talented ones are flying under the radar.Student of the game. #Fundamentals

2.) I'm not sure where you are getting that the standards were higher from. The same incomprehensible drivel that is being released now (because as a whole we like incomprehensible drivel) was being released back then to equal, if not even more, success than it is now. Unless you are talking about rap, which didn't sell well unless you had a gimmick, were in a group, were female, or capitalizing on the gangster movement which had invaded mainstream America.
3). As far as the executive thing goes...You do realize that this encompasses everything in the entertainment industry right? Everything from Jersey Shore to Twilight to Music in general, not just rap?
This is what was on the radio back then:

This is on the radio now by the way:

Even the remix of this song is getting played on the radio down here in Louisiana.

Thats 4 songs by one artist on the radio in the past year with 3 of those songs being this year and getting heavy radio play even all the way down here in Louisiana.
But the good artists get no love.
But yes, let's keep judging music based on what we hear on the radio. That never gets old.

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Don't go to the radio for music. The talent pool there is naturally going to be thinner there than it was before with the advent of social media. Now, many new artists make careers releasing music on the internet that won't get radio play.Last edited by Fly3; 07-16-2013, 09:53 PM.Comment

Jim Morrison never received an autopsy.
Just want to set the record straight on that one.

Dude that isn't necessary. Everyone knows it was a stupid idea. Most people know about everyone you listed.
