I'll be the one to say it, even though I typically just skim over things I don't care about.

This conversation about hip hop/rap sucks.

There's also a thread to "contain" it. So there's that.

Yeah, I guess you win the thread, 'cause that's probably the most outlandish thing anyone's posted in here.

This is an uncommon opinions thread so my opinion may differ from others obviously lol. This isn't the rap/hip hop thread i'm posting in. It's the uncommon opinions thread so i'm freely allowed to make my opinion about things like rap music so stop being a troll

                NCAA athletes deserve monetary compensation.

I agree. Being a student athlete is a full time job, these kids are slaves to their school and coaching staff.

I think it was Steve Spurrier that said pay them $300 per week. I would be fine with something like that. A lot of these kids don't have families that can give them money to compensate for not being able to have a job like most other college kids. That amount of money would be enough to buy groceries/pay for gas/etc.

A scholarship doesn't count towards compensation?

And this is the main argument. Yes it very much does no question.

BUT. Like I said what about the kids that come from poor families and cant get a job because they are a full time student-athlete? You don't have to pay them a yearly salary by any means, just a couple hundred dollars a week to live on.

Also, the NCAA makes millions and millions of dollars a year, $797 million projected for 2012-2013. And they should keep all of that money to themselves?

                          It does, and it's insufficient.

If we're gonna talk about the NCAA "keeping money for themselves" so poor college kids on scholarships can eat...what about the Waltons and Wal-Mart? Or any CEO for that matter. What is the difference?

If a student is poor then FASFA should be available for whatever the scholarships do not cover.

Nah the scholarship is peanuts compared to what they bring in for these schools.

You know athletes do get a check right? They get money. The issue isn't them being broke, it's them not getting paid versus what they make the school.
