I love the sport. I don't love that the players of the sport I love lose their damn minds later in life and get treated like ****. If we can find a way to fix that without ruining the sport, I'm all for it. I think less armor would accomplish that without ruining the sport.

Let me try to understand it. You want to take two human skulls encased in hard plastic shells full of padding, remove all that, and wrap them in a piece of leather with very little padding, which would basically make players literally butt heads?

I think that's the idea though, at least as far as what it would prevent from happening. It would force players/coaches to change the way the game is played/the way one approaches contact.

I am not an expert on the subject but I know there is some science, somewhere, to support the theory. At least on paper. I know it has been talked about for quite some time.

That's just my basic understanding of the theory. That's all I am saying

            I guess.

Im still trying to understand how going back to the Rugby Era basically will help out with the concussion problem. Might as well just say get rid of Football altogether and that's not being hyperbolic either.

There's just no real solution and it'll really come down to the Parents as far as steering their kids towards something else.

Not really the concussion problem, but more or less the sub concussive hits problem.

The reason why the concussion amount is about the same is due to the type of material they use for helmets. The article I read said you can take a 2x4 and put it on top of your finger and hit it with a hammer and do the same with a large yoga mat and your finger is gonna hurt with the piece of wood vs the yoga mat but you'll still be fine but the problem with the yoga mat is if you swing a sledgehammer against it you'll gonna get hurt vs the wood you'd fare off much better.

Basically with leather helmets it would be a matter of time until someone got seriously hurt as in they die. You need a helmet that is hard but yet flexible. Leather isn't an option.

And players did die during the leather helmet era, I'm sure.

                    Re: Uncommon Opinions

It's definitely a polarizing topic and a discussion I have always found fascinating.

I wish there was an easy fix that would solve all T.B.I. problems, but as we all know that just isn't the world we live in.

Seems like continuing to enforce harsh penalties for targeting and other violent hits to the head are a step in the right direction and hopefully we continue to develop new technologies and ideas to make football safer, or at least as safe as possible.

That's not at all what I'm saying. Keep the game generally the same. Change the pads to where there isn't so much head-to-head contact. The game would be fine.

All this actually reminds me, a Texas Tech student is working on helping the issue.

An Arduino-powered smart football helmet could help protect players from concussions by using stabilizers and smart sensors.

What are you gonna do if someone tackles someone cleanly but causes the players head to hit the ground due to the tackle? Today's helmet is going to help better than a leather helmet.

The hits are always going to be there though. That's just the culture that Football is in(and also have no problem accepting it since they love showing the big hits over and over from the Pros down to HS/Pop Warner level). We also gotta remember that players today are bigger, faster AND stronger than they've ever been in an other period.

I will say that as far as monitoring players and doing precautionary measures, it's ALOT better now than what they were before.
