Re: Uncommon Opinions
You know what would be sad? If science actually discovered better ways for helmets to absorb/disperse contact but the NFL suppressed it because the helmets look really weird?
Didn't baseball have a problem with that? Not the info suppression, but the great gazoo batting helmet, or the padded pitcher hat/helmet
As for the helmet argument, the only way to prevent concussions is to prevent the brain from moving inside the skull. In order to do that, you have to slow the head down before it hits the ground. In order to do that, you need bigger padding. The new helmets with the cutout-looking parts help a little because it allows the helmet to give a little when it hits the ground, but with the way football is played now, I don't think you can remove concussions. You would have to completely change how the game is played.Last edited by Jr.; 09-05-2016, 10:28 PM.Comment

I can't speak for football, but with regards to baseball, I don't think they've suppressed anything. It's just that players don't want to wear them because of how weird they look and having to get accustomed to them.

I think sub concussive hits are the bigger issue. A concussion will **** you up immediately, probably scare you—whereas the sub concussive hits (which also cause CTE) don't really hurt at the time. There's no "shock" to the system like a full on concussion. But damage is being done.
EDIT: also I'm not claiming to be totally right. I think I'm on the right track. But I am claiming that the state of head injuries in football is in a bad place right now. And I'm offering *a* solution.

Let's be realistic: There will never be "less interest" in Football which also means they will never make "less money" as long as the demand is there.
And there's no indication to think that demand will go away anytime soon even with the increased risk. In the event that it does, there won't be another sport to take its place either.#RespectTheCultureComment

I'm inclined to agree with you because our species has cheered on people literally tearing each other to shreds and killing each other for fun.
But I also do think my scenario is plausible, if not legitimately (slightly) possible.

Lol @ "our species". Not sure if serious.
As for your scenario, what evidence is there to even suggest that interest in it is going down. It'd be one thing if you had evidence to go along with what you're saying, then I could go along with it.
But when there's evidence showing its popularity still as high and that its pulling in more money and will continue to do so. But yeah it's not going away no time soon. Reminds me of when folks used to say Baseball would be king of the Sports World eventually.#RespectTheCultureComment

I'm serious. Humans in general are a barbaric species.
And I have no evidence, that's why I said plausible. I never once said it was happening at all

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I'd rather my son play baseball anyways. Less chance of injury*, better chance of making way more money**, and I love baseball more than football.
*- Less chance of a very serious injury, ala football.
