I mean yeah if there's a legit reason like trying to get in front of someone to turn or what not, I just don't understand the people in general who are always in such a hurry to get nowhere.

So, say you're leading a load of cars at a red traffic light in a 45 MPH zone. When it turns green, does it matter if you climb to 45 MPH in ten seconds or four seconds?
No but it does attract our attention

They just don't know how to capitalize on the system. We had synched lights when I lived in Akron and it usually paid off after a light or two, though daylight savings time always threw it off for some reason. Never understood how it could take several weeks to go fix the lights because of a time change. Get around a few people, hit the next light green and you are good for the homestretch.

If it's like most places in Europe I've been (except Germany), following traffic laws is optional at best, LOL. It's the same in South America, too, and probably most of the world. Our traffic laws tend to be really structured in the US.

One of my co-workers got pulled over for going through a Yellow Light, I believe they got a citation and they Police Officer told them the reason was they Accelerated through a Yellow light, making no attempt to slow down.

Sounded like BS to me.. if you're close enough to the light shouldn't you just go through it? I think it would be more dangerous to make a rapid stop at the Intersection possibly causing someone to rear end you.

Too many variables. If the cop thought you were far enough back that there was enough time to stop, at least there is a good reason for it. But if you are too close to the light and slam on your breaks, they could write you a ticket for running it even though you tried to stop. It is why I despise red light cameras and there about about a dozen within a few miles of here. I get so paranoid near them. Luckily, several have cross walks so you can see if they are about to change, but seems like such a scam to me.

I know someone who used to write traffic light tickets and he told me he normally wouldn't give tickets to people who hit their brakes. Now obviously that's only one person, but I have to think that probably happens pretty often.

A friend of my parents' was a cop for years and he said if you tried to stop and you weren't like dead in the middle of the intersection, he'd usually let it slide, but not every cop would. He said he'd rather people just go if they are close enough to prevent people skidding to a stop in the middle of crossing lanes.

I guess someone doesn't know the rules of the road!(not highway....but similar rules apply!)

                        1. You should never be going at a speed in which you cannot stop your vehicle in a prudent manner.
                        2. You should never be following a vehicle in which you cannot stop your vehicle in time to avoid collision in case THEY stop their vehicle in a less than prudent manner!

Oh...and as far as the law goes...yellow means prepare to stop...not hurry up and go through.

Now...we all go through yellow lights...just as we all speed... and other various small traffic violations.
But...you kind of have to eat it if you get a police officer who is kind of...you know....
