You've never been completely safe anywhere.

But you have to admit that people will probably be increasingly skiddish to attend major events, especially those that are considered to define the American institution.

We've all seen the suicide bombings occurring everywhere overseas and wondered when this could become more prominent on our homeland. You can't tell me that many people haven't wondered if this isn't the possible beginning of this.

Latest I've heard1. Possible person of interest being guarded at a local hospital with serious burns
2. Bombs appeared to be set of remotely via a cell phone
3. 108 injured and yes sadly an 8 year old was killed
4. Bombs contained shrapnel which explains all the severed limbs at the scene
5. First bomb was likely set off to "draw more people in" then the second bomb was set off as people rushed in to see what was going on or help people hurt from the first blast

They wont. We had a bombing at the Olympics and people still attended sporting events and other major events. NYers sold out MSG 2 weeks after 9/11 for the Hopkins/Trinidad fight. What this will lead to is more heightened security at those events. Thats all.

One thing that is a little strange(if it can be "strange") is the placing of the secondary device. It's very far away. To target First Responders(happened way to quickly after the first for that) or to people trying to help...it would have been a lot closer than 100 yards away.
Perhaps those involved thought there would be a larger crowd at the end?
(also why I thankfully say that there was no bomb at the beginning of the race...the casualty list would be much larger)

Makes me wonder if this is a test run of sorts?

Events like this have started to have the opposite effect on me. Seeing so many help out complete strangers during a time like this reminds me there is still good in this crazy world we live in. Peoples willingness to pull together in the face of danger and tragedy has a strong effect on me.

Still can't believe stuff like this keep happening and how sick a person's mind can become when doing such a horrific act like this. My prayers go out to the people who are impacted by this.

I hope and pray you are right. But I also hope that it's not just a matter of heightened security, but of heightened intel so anything can be avoided altogether.

I have always been surprised that we don't see more of these sort of attacks within the U.S. borders. There are so many high traffic/low security public areas that would seemingly be very easy to target.

I don't get it, either. It's one thing that's always puzzled me. 9/11 may be scary due to its significance and large death toll, but shooting up a few shopping malls or schools would scare the **** out of the American public and cause people to be scared to even go out.

I don have any idea if its true or not but I heard somewhere (CBS nightly news I believe) that the third bomb was underneath one of the spectator seating areas.

Their THEORY was that the first was to get it started and draw people into that area either to help or see what was going on, the second was aimed at those and the third was supposed to be the most disruptive.

Yeah...I don't know tons of details, but I bet we'll find out that we were lucky hundreds didn't die when it was supposed to go off earlier (or something similar)...

It sickens me whenever anything like this happens, but I have a weird feeling that we got very lucky somehow.

I think the luckiest part of this is that it did occur near the finish line by an aid station. The loss of life/severity of injuries could have been a lot higher if the explosion occurred in between aid stations at an earlier mile marker.

We are lucky they didn't do anything before the start of the race where there are literally thousands of people on top of each other before the race.
