Definitely, I heard on the news that a lot of those fans travel to the race finish which obviously increased traffic.

It will be interesting to see how they attempt to keep the Chicago Marathon safe this year having 18,000 more runners and 500,000 more spectators than Boston.

Pretty OT, but these crowds looked sparser than normal, even for these teams. Did the bombings have a nationwide effect in that many people stayed in their homes as a result?

Those crowds are normal for a game on a Monday in April.

I cannot believe this happened here in Boston. My brother in law has friends who lost legs. What a beautiful day turned bad.

But this is far from the first tragic twist in Arredondo's life, as NBC News points out after delving through past media coverage of the Costa Rica native. He lost his son, Marine Lance Cpl. Alexander Arredondo, during the 20-year-old's second tour of duty in Iraq in 2004. Arredondo got the news on his 44th birthday, and immediately climbed inside the Marine Corps van and set it afire, burning himself severely. He became a peace activist and started sharing his son's story via a mobile memorial in his pickup truck that he drives around the country, and in 2007 he was beaten at a Washington anti-war demonstration. Four years later, his other son, Brian, killed himself at 24. He had struggled with depression and drug addiction after his brother's death, Mother Jones reports; he was facing jail at the time of his suicide.

8-Year-Old Boy Killed In The Boston Blasts Has Been Identified

The bombing claimed the life of Martin Richard, an eight-year-old boy from Dorchester whose mother and sister were grievously injured. He was the son of Bill Richard, a community leader from Dorchester’s Ashmont neighborhood, officials said.
Television station WHDH said Martin's mother and sister are in the hospital. The mother had surgery for a brain injury the station described as "serious." The sister, who is six years old, lost one of her legs. The family was there to watch Bill Richard finish the race.

At least one Web user was ready for this. He registered a website — bostonmarathonconspiracy.com — on Monday. Clicking the link reveals a white page with black text reading:
“I bought this domain to keep some conspiracy theory kook from owning it. Please keep the victims of this event and their families in your thoughts. Thank you.”

Another thing I've heard a lot that didn't turn out to be true is that there were undetonated devices found. Apparently there were none.

Yeah WSJ said at first there were 5 undetonated. Then I saw 4, then 2, and I dunno...haven't seen anything on that today.

                            No unexploded bombs
Suspicious packages that were detonated out of precaution after the bombings turned out not to be explosive devices after all.
After the blasts Monday, some officials reported that explosive devices that failed to go off were found.
But investigators said Tuesday the only bombs were the two that exploded at the marathon.

"These types of pressure cooker explosives have been used in Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan, according to a July 2010 joint FBI and Homeland Security intelligence report.""

Pretty interesting read elaborating on using pressure cookers as a weapon.

Yea the started getting pretty popular in Iraq after all of the heavy munitions started drying up. You don't need much to make a nasty bomb, a trip to your local grocery store and hobby shop is all you need to kill.

As bad as it was in Boston Yesterday, Iraq had multiple bombings that killed over 45 and injured hundreds more. People in Iraq have got to be frustrated that this bombing is getting more attention as theirs was 10x worse.
