Got out for a 90-minute ride today. Started later than I hoped to and definitely felt the heat and humidity out there, but still managed to get 18.5 miles in. Checked out some low maintenance roads and with the dry conditions, they were a lot of fun to ride as it was packed in dirt and no mud.

Had an awesome ride yesterday morning. 13.38 miles and felt good throughout the ride even with brutal humidity even though I got to the trailhead at daybreak.
I'm looking forward to October when it starts to cool off a bit and I'm ready for some night riding as well. Love riding in the fall.Texas Rangers/Saints/LSU/Tottenham Hotspur

Got a couple good rides in over the weekend. Fitness is feeling pretty good for only riding twice a week and not getting to the gym like I was before Covid. Have not been able to get motivated for the gym since things opened back up.Texas Rangers/Saints/LSU/Tottenham Hotspur

Temperatures are dropping down to normal levels this weekend, so definitely looking forward to getting out on my bike. Going to check out a park about an hour away that has a lot of good trails/roads for biking.Currently Playing:

Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?
2020......the year that keeps on giving.
Doesn't look like I'll be riding on my local trails anytime soon. The forest service did some assessments with drones and estimate 50 -80 trees down per mile after Hurricane Laura.
The Wild Azalea Trail is roughly 30 miles long with about 50 miles of trails total that branch off and make different loops.
I'm hoping they'll have some volunteer days to help speed things up.Last edited by doubledeuceR6; 09-08-2020, 04:15 PM.Texas Rangers/Saints/LSU/Tottenham Hotspur

Ugh, sorry to hear that. Hopefully as you said, they can get some volunteers out there to help aid in the cleanup.2020......the year that keeps on giving.

Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?
Finished the summer with some good rides, and continued that momentum into the fall. I also picked up a Salsa Mukluk so I'll be able to do more outdoor winter riding. Picked up a pair of pogies (bar mitts) for the Mukluk and they're a gamechanger; we've had some cold/windy days recently and I didn't feel cold at all with the pogies and regular riding gloves on - and my hands are usually always cold this time of year.Currently Playing:

Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?
Got a ride in Thanksgiving morning! Weather was perfect and got a few good pics. All these trees down from hurricane Laura, some local guys doing most of the clearing. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?
They finally opened up most of my local trail system. Still a few sections they are still working on that were were destroyed by a ef3 tornado this time last year.
The wife and I tested positive for covid about 2 weeks before Christmas. My last day of quarantine was Saturday and I did a short little 6 mile ride Sunday just to stretch out the lungs and see how strong I felt and felt better than expected. Planning on riding today as we are supposed to get some rough weather on on Thursday.
Man I hope it's not too bad, this area has just been hammered over the last year...

Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?
First ride of 2021 did not go to plan on Sunday. 2 miles in a limb got tangled in my rear wheel briefly and tweaked my derailleur hangar leaving me with only about 3 or 4 gears to work with and ended up walking just as much as I rode.
I don't know how those single speed guys do it but credit to them.
Fortunately I have a hangar tool so I got it straight yesterday morning and went for a ride that afternoon and it went much smoother. Only did about 7 miles though after planning on double that. Was feeling a little fatigued and weak on the climbs so I bailed out about halfway through.Texas Rangers/Saints/LSU/Tottenham Hotspur

Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?
Got a couple of rides in on the fat bike over the weekend. Went a total of 12 miles and it was tough! Riding on the roads was fine because the plows packed down the snow. The trails, however, were untouched so it was a snow/ice mixture that was near-impossible to ride over for long stretches. I was disappointed in the condition, not only for myself, but anyone that walks, runs, etc., the 16-mile trail is unusable in its current state and with temps in the 20's and low 30's, it's going to be quite a while before that melts away.
I'll plan on sticking to the roads or venturing to other towns with known groomed trails for the remainder of the winter.Currently Playing:

Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?
Weather has been terrible the last couple weekends with rain so the trails are saturated.
Bummed that my buddy who got me into mountain biking texted me last night said he's looking to sell his bikes and just hasn't had the desire to ride. I knew something was up though since hadn't been able to make it the last several times I had invited him.
I have days where I don't feel like being out there but once I get warmed up and going that disappears and I'm always happy I went when I'm done.
Hopefully he'll keep one and find that motivation again.Texas Rangers/Saints/LSU/Tottenham Hotspur

Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?
Yeah, that's always tough when someone loses interest in riding, but I understand it.
As for me, well, I crashed on my ride over the weekend. I caught a patch of ice on a downhill portion of the trail that was extra slippery, and my fat bike went out from underneath me, sending me falling onto the sheet of packed ice, with my left side taking all of the impact. I was able to ride home, but shortly afterwards had trouble walking (strained or pulled my groin) and my shoulder, back and wrist were pretty sore.
I'm getting a little better every day, but the groin still limits my movement. It's going to be a little bit before my next ride. But, all things considered, it could've been a lot worse.Currently Playing:
