Re: I want to move
Yep. I live right by the W 117th and Detroit Ave. corner. Right on the Cleveland/Lakewood border.
Wow, you're basically in PA all the way out there.Comment

Re: I want to move
Charlotte is a pretty nice place. It's a big city with a decent downtown. Traffic can be bad, but it's nothing compared to Boston. The weather is nice, if you like warmer, sunnier weather.
Of course, my Charlotte experiences come from visiting there. I've only spent the night there a handful of occasions, though I've been there a multitude of times over the course of my life at the airport (US Airways' biggest hub).
There's a lot of northerners who have migrated to North Carolina over the past few decades, so you will fit in.

Re: I want to move
I'd pick Portland personally, mostly because I hear its basically Austin North. I spent a lot of time helping my family find an apartment when I moved here 4 years ago. I found Apartments.com as the best resource for looking for a place to live.Native Georgian. Adopted Texan.Comment

Portland is a rip though on your income. They have some of the highest income taxes in this country.Comment

Re: I want to move
That's pretty spot on and which is why Austin would be the only city in the south I would ever dream of spending more than five seconds in unless I absolutely had to and/or was being paid handsomely.
Fact is, that I absolutely despise hot weather (anything over 85 and I lock myself in the AC all day) and I had my share of living in the south for many years. Not for me.Comment
