Going to New York for a few days...
Gonna need some tips on restaurants and things to do. Bars, attractions, anything. Going to Braves/Mets on the 21st and Blue Jays/Yankees on the 22nd for sure. Everything else is an open schedule.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 08-08-2013, 02:17 PM.Tags: None -
Re: Going to New York for a few days...
Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty are nice (But you have to deal with the hordes of tourists. Times Square is also a great option as it's an unbelievable experience.
For Food what are you looking for? Italian? Steak House? Japanese? NYC has so many options for food it gets overwhelming. Try to narrow it down to certain cuisine's
Catch a Broadway show if you can. Might as well take advantage of it while you're in the city.

Eh, Broadway isn't for me.
Italian, Mexican (though I doubt it holds a candle to Southern California, lol), Chinese, steakhouse, burgers, hot dogs, delis, bakeries, whatever. What's your choice for best pizza in town? For pizza I want the best, touristy or not.
I'll be staying in Queens but will be in the main city a few days.Comment

9/11 memorial is a must see.
Far as pizza, it so many damn good places there in all 5 boroughs you can't go wrong at any place. NYC has some really good gyros too. You probably gain 10 pounds from all the food choices there.Comment

Broadway isnt really for me either but Ive never been disappointed after seeing a play there. They are usually fantastic.
Im blanking on good spots to go to in the city, but you gotta try a cheesecake at Junior's. And you can pretty much spend a week doing all kinds of stuff at Times Square alone.Last edited by kingkilla56; 08-08-2013, 08:11 PM.Comment

I've always enjoyed going to La Famiglia Pizza in NYC. It's not too far from Times Square. Check it out for lunch one day. Not too expensive considering it's New York.Comment

The absolute best pizza I ever had in New York was at a tiny little hole-in-the-wall pizza shop called Luigi's in Brooklyn. It's in the Bay Ridge neighborhood on the corner of 85th and 3rd. Best NY style pie I have ever had and I've eaten it all over the city. Bonus: eating in Brooklyn costs about a third of what it does to eat in Manhattan.
If you're a soda drinker at all, be sure to try a "New York" Pepsi while you're there. You'll know it is a "New York" Pepsi because it will have the words "New York" printed around the top of the can.
It looks like this:

I'm not a big soda drinker at all, but the "New York" Pepsi is one I make an exception for. It is a lot less sweet than a traditional cola and more "seltzery" for lack of a better term. Anyway, a can of that stuff goes great with two slices from Luigi's, or anywhere else.
The thing I have enjoyed the most about New York is the little things, that being one of them.Comment

Haven't been to NYC for a few years and it was only a week, but I had pizza at a place called Ray's (don't remember off the top of my head exactly where it was), but it was fantastic, but GMSS is spot on, when it comes to pizza in New York, you can't really go wrong. I would also suggest Broadway, even though you've already shot it down. It really is a great experience. Chinatown is another place that is worth checking out. Also, make sure you do some of the parks, Central Park for sure and Battery Park is definitely an experience.MLB: Minnesota Twins

As a person who lives in Brooklyn I can say Luigi's Pizza is pretty damn good. Usually your best bets for great Pizza are small hole in the wall type of place. Brooklyn is cheaper but If you want a top tier steak you're going to have to look in the CityThe absolute best pizza I ever had in New York was at a tiny little hole-in-the-wall pizza shop called Luigi's in Brooklyn. Keens on West 36th is fantastic. Probably the best Prime Rib I have ever eaten. Great selection on Fish as well in case if you are not in the mood for Steak. Peter Luger's Is renowned as one of the best in New York if you are looking more along the lines of a porterhouse.
