Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!

You know this has been something that's been on my to-do list. I'm actually the same way.. I'm very non-confrontational and will be the more rational cool headed person so I have barely ever been in what qualifies as a "fight".

But just for comforts sake and should the situation ever arise where I need to defend myself, I've heard of muggings, robberies, friends bite off more than they can chew and I get dragged into it... I would like to have the knowledge of at least being able to not get my *** kicked for 15 seconds or so lol.

One day I would like to train in Brazilian Jiujitsu and Boxing, I need my wrist to heal up first though.

Too mainstream, gotta go with the piledriver. It's a four-step process and very simple:

          1) Kick him in the nuts
          2) Pull his head in between your legs
          3) Pick him up
          4) Break his neck
Optional Step) Pin him for 3 seconds and flex

Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!

A well timed/placed knee or elbow strike can be even more effective than one with your hands or your feet. You can do serious damage to your hands if you don't throw a punch the proper way. I absolutely hate fighting now that I'm older, but I've been in dozens of physical altercations from adolescence up until as recently as just last year. My "go to" first move when I know there is no walking away is an elbow/forearm strike the the instigator's nasal area with my right (dominant) arm. If that doesn't knock them down/back I immediately follow up with a left hook to the right side of their face, preferably the jaw or the temple. Now, if you are well practiced and precise with those moves and strike with force and that still doesn't knock them down/back then you're dealing with a tough SOB. At that point, all bets are off.

Also, **** letting the other guy throw the first punch. Getting hit really sucks. If I am even 50% sure that the other person is going to get physical with me during an altercation, I'm striking them first. Also, if someone pushes you, don't push them back. Rock their ****ing nose with a right elbow and then lay them out with a left punch like I said. If you practice those moves, 90% of the time you win right there. Why not punch with your right hand if you're right hand dominant you ask? Because as I said earlier, you can seriously damage your hand throwing a punch unless you place it absolutely perfectly which is tough to do when your target is moving. That way, even if you **** up your non-dominant hand, your strong arm still has a haymaker left in the tank.

Obviously flip the handedness if you're left handed.

Just remember this: dominant elbow, non-dominant punch, dominant haymaker.

Buy a heavy hag. Get some hand wraps. Get a friend to train with and practice these moves a few days a week. Profit.

No this is required, I would probably lose it if I saw someone win a street or bar fight and do this.

No worries. Only fight I've ever been a participant in was a very minor scuffle in the 5th grade classroom.

Otherwise, I've just been a witness. Watched my cousin get thrown to the ground in the middle of the street by a d-bag in the 6th grade.

Damn, I sound like I went to a very bad elementary school.

I've never thrown a punch (that wasn't playful in nature) in my entire life. So your fight in kindergarten is more experience than I have with fighting!

Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!

Truthfully my best fight was in like 4th or 5th grade. In aftercare we would always play football against one of the other grades, well one day our "team" was practicing and my friend cut me in line. I had anger problems during these for a little bit and just decked him with an uppercut, he was on the ground bleeding because he had braces and I screwed them up.

Funny thing is we stayed great friends afterwards through HS and now in college he lives in the apartment below me.

Learn BJJ. Extremely easy to dominate a guy with 0 fighting experience WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE. You dont need to hurt him or yourself, just get him in a lock until he submits

Lifting weights really wont matter with technique. Ive seen nerdy scrawny guys dominate a fight just because he knew what to do to take out someone.

Also Judo would be good for street fights. A simple throw onto concrete would be devastating.

But at the end of the day, anything would work. Just would need to fight to your strengths

Yeah Muy Thai or BJJ is the way to go.

LOL @ people saying that wouldn't work in a street fight. Most people in street fights have no clue about proper technique or how to get people to certain positions that benefit you in a fight.

You learn one of those disciplines and guarantee you'll win 99% of the fights you get into. The 1% being the odd chance you run into someone who also knows a discipline like that.

So what I've gathered is that I should take some boxing classes. Now should it be kickboxing or strictly boxing only? Didn't know if one is more viable than the other in a fight.

I got the weight thing down as Chase mentioned. Lol. I'm 6 foot, 195 pounds. Can squat 315 (3 plates) for 10 reps. Deadlift 315 for 10. Bench 255 for 6-7 without a spotter. 225 for 12-14. So I hope I'm good there.

And a lot seem to think having some type of grappling ability is good just in case the fight goes to the ground. I had the same line of thought in that most fights I have seen in school and clubs end up with dudes tussling and eventually on the ground. So which grappling style would be most practical in a real world fight?

And lastly, seems I should have a finishing move. I was thinking the People's Elbow. But if I'm in a situation without ropes, which is quite possible, that would be largely ineffective. So I would want to go with something that would be effective in all situations that would put a guy down for the count. I was thinking an F-5. Yeah, they wont be expecting that s***.

From what I know, most self defense classes teach you how not to fight, and then worst case how to fight long enough to run away...

Martial arts in general teach you that fighting really isn't the answer...

IMO fighting will just end up getting you in trouble with the law....my boss is a black belt in some martial art, along with training in kickboxing and jiu-jitsu and he realizes it's not worth getting into a bar fight.

Even if you're a stellar boxer some guy 50 lbs heavier than you could take you out easily if you're unlucky. Just not worth it.

This. My dad is a 3rd degree black belt and while I never was a fighter nor did I ever want to become one, he did teach me enough to where I'd be able to get away from a fight if one ever found me. The number one thing he always preached to me was that the best way to defend yourself is to avoid the fight altogether, or if it's unavoidable...quickly put the person down (even if its just as simple as dazing them, or knocking then down) and get away.
