Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!
To those who say avoid the fight altogether, that is REALLY the best piece of advice. I've had two friends killed in confrontations. One was a boxer...caught the guy real good but as soon as he came to, he went to his car, got a gun, followed my friend and shot him dead. My other friend took a guy down, but when grappling the guy pulled out a gun and shot him.
I know how to fight reasonably well but I'm always of the mindset that every guy can get the upper hand on me because in actuality they can."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

In the USMC we learn an" MMA" style of fighting through the different belts you can acuire. I made it to gray belt which focused on ground fighting techniques.
If you use it in combat it would be useful anywhere. Most fights end up on the ground in 2 minutes so knowing what to do in the different ground guards are important, meaning if someone is on top of you or you are in top of someone .
Submission moves can and will work. I will forever try to full nelson or bloodchoke someone in a street fight because not many people can get out of those moves, its getting to them that is the hard part.
If in a fight I won't even mess with punches. I am going straight for knees if I can, kicking one of them with my heel and applying as much force as possible as to create a compound fracture :sly:Last edited by JBH3; 08-21-2013, 05:10 PM.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!
Not fighting is the best thing because once you are past 18 big consequences can happen. If you must fight, grab a weapon. Any time I am ever in a situation which could become volatile I always scope out the things I could use as a weapon. As a grown man, I have nothing to prove. Plus the army taught me to use anything at my disposal.
If I'm going to be in a fight, it's because someone else started it and I see that there's a real threat. So if I can, I am going to take them down hard and do it quickly.Comment

Even if 'they started it,' most times if they punch you and you pick up a brick and smash their head in, you're going to jail and self-defense won't really get you much leniency.Comment

Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!
So, you say "big consequences can happen" and then you promote grabbing a weapon and adding 'assault with a deadly weapon' to any potential charge that might get brought against you if you severely injured the other person with that weapon?
Even if 'they started it,' most times if they punch you and you pick up a brick and smash their head in, you're going to jail and self-defense won't really get you much leniency.
I've had the cops called on me a couple of times for socking the **** out of a couple of guys but I have never used a weapon. Needless to say, I was never arrested for assault, let alone ever faced any charges.
If some dickhead is in your face and you sock him one (even if you strike first) and there is a witness, you're good to go. As long as you just use your fists/elbows/forearms and don't excessively beat them (kick them when they're down, etc.) and stop attacking as soon as you feel you are in control of the situation (one or two solid punches/strikes) you have nothing to worry about. Even if you do get arrested by an overzealous LEO, you'll more than likely beat the case as long as you don't have any prior violent crimes on your record.
Adding a weapon to the equation will get you in big trouble and is also a cowardly way to defend yourself.Comment

I was always under the impression that you can't escalate the level of violence (i.e. grab a weapon) and then claim self defense.NFL - Vikings

Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!
In one of the instances, the other guy did "push" me first, but I just rocked him instead of pushing back like a little bitch.
The other incident, the guy didn't lay a hand on me, but was right in my face and screamed at the top of his lungs that he was going to, "****ing murder me in front of everyone." Before he had a chance to act on it, he was on the ground.Comment

Depends on the situation, what city/state you're in, etc.

I think that's the key. You can't just go punching someone out of nowhere, but if he threatens you or pushes you then it's legally acceptable to defend yourself I think.
Just be careful it doesn't go too far accidently. Sucks if he gets KTFO, falls, and hits his head on something causing serious damage or death. You're still liable for that usually.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

"Cowardly way to defend yourself" is a contradiction. If you think you're more of a man because you stick it out with your fists when attacked, you're very naive.Bears | Bulls | Cubs | Illinois | #Team3Some

Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!
Now if it is some sort of robbery attempt and/or it happens in your own home, that's different. But in a random bar encounter type deal, that starts out as a fist fight and one guy decides to involve weapons, the guy who brings the weapons into the equation is the one who is going to be in trouble, whether he is the one that started the altercation or not.Comment

Re: I Need To Learn How To Fight!!!
As a grown man at 46 years of age, I'm not fighting for fun or to show what a bada$$ I am. I'm talking about somebody posing a serious threat. If you start a fight with a grown man, be prepared for the consequences. I'm thinking intruder or somebody comes up to me in a parking lot due to road rage, not a bar fight. I'll take the consequences if it means I kept my wife and kids from being hurt. I'm not fighting anyone unless it is serious business. This is why you young guys don't mess with old men. We can't hang in a long, drawn out fight and WON'T fight unless we just have to, but if it's on, it's gonna be on all the way.
And before you call me cowardly, did you serve in the military? I did. And it's not cowardly to defend yourself or your family by any means possible.Comment
