Perhaps I am jaded but this just sounds par for the course, stuff like this happens literally every day in the US and the only difference here is this was a white college baseball player from Australia.

This is obviously a tragic story but it certainly speaks to the gang/gun/violent culture that is rampant in poor America. I could write a book, it's just a damn shame all around.

A random person walking down the street gunned down in the back is not a common occurrence in this country. It DOES NOT happen every day or close to it.

*There may be more facts out there but from what I've read it was completely random and the quotes are powerful. If there is any information regarding another type of motive for this crime please let us know.*

Yeah I have to agree with NDAlum. These kids made it seem like they just killed him on a whim, that is not common. Could have been you or I just as easily. Can't comprehend how you could just end a life for no reason.

It's a fine line the media walks. This is a story that because of the nature of it they almost HAVE to talk about it but at the same time like you say, it's definitely an ego boost to these two wastes of human space.

To add, the reason they HAVE to talk about it is because it's news like this that pulls in viewers, like it or not. More viewers=more money for the networks. It's a really vicious cycle.

I think a lot of people will watch whatever is broadcast regardless of content. The media creates sensations and hot topics. Very few stories feel like they need national attention anymore. Those that do and require intelligence to address and present are buried.

a baseball bat, or stoned with baseballs.

To play devil's advocate, news networks know what people are talking about. I'm sure the big ones have people who peruse social media all day for trends and hot topics of the day/week/month.

They want to broadcast issues that people are talking about.

If I were the investigator who interviewed them, after hearing that explanation I'd really have to fight the urges to not take out my gun and shoot one of them in the leg or something. "oh sorry I'm just having some fun."
