I did hear he stole a gun but also had the machine gun and shot gun. I guess it's now reported that there was no machine gun. I still don't see how he gets in with a shotgun.

Out of all the bases in the area, this would have been the last one I would have pegged as a spot for something like this to go down. It's all ceremonial and administrative (also tiny.). Luckily all my close friends are gone from there and the couple buddies I have left there were Docs so they weren't around where it took phase.

That being said, if you're working on (any) base in some capacity... Getting arms in with you is a very easy thing to do. Anyone who has been to a base before can attest to that.

This is just a complete and utter failure on multiple levels and there isn't much I can do but offer my condolences to the families affected.
Getting in a shotgun is easy? I can see (maybe) a concealed weapon but a shotgun?

I mean if I had a bunch of people I didn't like and I went to the police saying "Hey slickdtc is crazy and something is going to happen if you guys don't step in!" in hopes of getting you committed to a mental health hospital, that doens't seem right does it?

What did you want them to do? Seriously
Hey, I hold nothing against the police -- their hands were tied. She had already had an episode of craziness and was admitted to a psychiatric facility after being treated at the hospital for injuries sustained in her craze.

I know it's not as easy as saying that person is or has been acting crazy, put them away. And like you said, it's only a holding pattern anyway. 3 days later, they're coming back out. It's a dangerous precedent to say other people should determine if others should be thrown in a mental facility. Thus my concluding statement on mental health.

We just had to wait until she A) hurt herself, B) hurt someone else, or C) did something crazy enough again to be held. That's the problem, and like I said, it's not a good status quo but I don't know how you can fix it, especially on a case-by-case basis with different motives and backgrounds thrown in. Not all mentally ill people are dangerous so we can't thrown them all under one blanket.

It's a no win situation. If the cops are over zealous then we complain about abuse of power. If they aren't harsh enough then something like this happens and we complain. Not sure how realistic it is to think we could have stopped this ahead of time or not.

One of the first teams of armed police to respond to Monday's shooting in Washington DC was ordered to stand down, police sources tell the BBC.

This is pretty standard, the BBC always makes our media look like amateurs.

Yep. In the UK there is still such a thing called accountability. That no longer exists here.

He probably drove in the gate, since he had access. I'm assuming he didn't walk in. You could take a trunk full of weapons with you if you wanted to (if you worked on base.)

All you do is drive up to the gate, show your ID card then continue on your way.

Hearing voices: In August, Alexis told police in Newport, Rhode Island, he was hearing voices and was convinced that someone was using a "microwave machine" to send vibrations into his body to keep him awake. Police notified the Navy. The Navy isn't commenting.
                        1) Directional Audio Technology
So this is pretty cool stuff. You can actually project a sound to an extremely focused area so that only your target can hear the message.
Here’s a video of a grocery story using it project the “voice of conscience” into the customers brain.
                        2) Long Range Directional Audio Technology
This is tech piece #1 on steroids. It’s a focused beam of sound that can travel long distances.
It can & has been used to repel pirates/enemies. It can be used as a sound warning. It can be used to cause pain in an enemy.
It was purchased by the navy for a much gentler application, however. Human voices can be beamed over about 300 meters (about 3 football fields).
It was noticed that the guy/gal on the receiving end of this mystical phone call was sometimes terrified.
Hmmmm… Wonder what else they could use this for.
                        3) Microwave Auditory Effect
A while back, wired.com reported “Beyond directed sound, it’s long been known that microwaves at certain frequencies can produce an auditory effect that sounds like it’s coming from within someone’s head (and there’s the nagging question of classified microwave work at Brooks Air Force Base, that the Air Force stubbornly refuses to talk about).”
This is a well researched, documented and tested technology also known as Microwave hearing effect or the Frey effect.

Unexplained etchings: Alexis etched phrases into the shotgun, a source said. But investigators don't know what to make of it. They read: "Better off this way," and "My elf weapon."
Could elf stand for extremely low frequency?
